This mask may help you fend off tear gas or CS gas, if the advertising claims on that web page are true. However, you should know that most chemical/biological agents go right through your clothes and skin, and unless you're wearing an airtight chemical protective suit, that mask alone won't help you. So, I went "mask" shopping....and found this utterly brilliant one that works against everything all the terrorists could hurl at me - be they middle eastern or american ones in police, national guard, or other uniforms. It works against tear gas and pepper spray (not all do) and chemicals and biological agents. The works!!! Plus it has a polycarbonate lens (bullet proof) and....the clincher, a fabbbbulous blue anti-fog nose holder. I am definitely not leaving the house the house without it.... It will live in the truck..... The company I got it from, is getting a tractor trailer load of them this week..... In the event of things escalating, I decided it was best to get one now, while they are available. If you plan on doing protests and/or work in places that are known to be on terrorists hit lists (movie & TV studios, etc), you may want to check these out. They have a 20 year shelf life. I for one, won't be leaving the house without my fabbbbbulous blue anti-fog nose holder...... http://www.approvedgasmasks.com/msa-3000.htm ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 13:55:50 +0000 From: adamk@zoom.co.uk Subject: minidisc (very off-topic) Something I've been mulling over, and since there's been techinical/audio stuff on the list before, I thought I'd give it a shot: Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the future of the minidisc format? I ask because minidisc separates seem to be harder to find than they were a year ago. I have a minidisc portable on which I record, but thought of buying a full-sized component to add to my stereo -- a thought I've been entertaining for a while, and when I checked Richer Sounds (our discount stereo place) they seemed to have fewer than ever. Is it on its way out? This would seem a pity, as I've just finished compiling a mix on my md-man, and found (by accident) the "LP" mode, which enabled to me to record 160 minutes of high-quality music. I love the versatility of the format, in which, once you listen to the mix, you can decide to move tracks around, trim a few seconds off of any of the tracks, delete them and then record something else in its place -- well, I get a kick out of it, and I certainly couldn't do this with tape. I know it never really took off as a pre-recorded format, but I was just wondering about its future -- anyone else have any opinions? adam k. PS -- Time Out also gave the new Tom McRae release a great review. Hopefully, this will be my first new purchase of '03 np -- Sigur ros ( ) -- I loved the last one, but this is one SERIOUSLY dull wash of pointless --albeit beautiful -- dirge. - ------------------------------------------------ This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 00:20:58 +1000 From: "heidi maier" Subject: tom mcrae and nick cave. anna maria wrote: > hi all.. > i'm sure the new tom mcrae will be worth it even if > he's a male..ha ha. > the new nick cave seems more uncertain and i'm a fan.. i liked tom mcrae's first album a great deal. i'm looking forward to hearing the new one. as for mr cave: the weekend australian here [in, er, australia] ran an interesting interview with him as the cover piece for their "review" section. in britain, the guardian also featured an interview, and a review of "nocturama," both of which can be read online: interview: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4594679,00.html review: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4589568,00.html warmly, heidi. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 07:44:57 -0800 (PST) From: alberto carrasco Subject: Swedish retro... I've been going to work, for over a year, behind barricades complete with bomb sniffing dogs, bomb searching mirrors, and major police presence. I work at the major motion picture studios and at ABC. We lost a lot of employment over 9/11 as some of our work, involved having the public come on the studio lots. They were not allowed in after 9/11. You may call these, "constitutional liberties" but being on someones hit list, whether its a bomb or biological agent is a reality we have been living with for over a year. Ah, America. Land of the Free no longer applies where I work....we've got guards, everywhere. In every hall. At every entrance. The best way to end all of this, is get out of the oil business. Plain and simple. Here's the cure to all of it....and no offense, but it isn't a military option. http://www.theaircar.com/howitworks.html Working behind the barricades.....exercising my rights for peace, and a healthy environment. There is also a previous strip that mentions Laurie Anderson, although I think that's now only available in the _Dreamtoons_ collection (also available at slowwave.com). Perhaps if someone has a sufficiently weird dream involving Happy, we can get Jesse Reklaw to draw it. ------------------------------ Date: 04 Feb 2003 15:23:36 +1100 From: Andrew Fries Subject: Re: FW: Fashionable and essential protest gear On Tue, 2003-02-04 at 05:01, Birdie wrote: > Here's the cure to all of it....and no offense, but it isn't a military option. > > http://www.theaircar.com/howitworks.html This is fascinating. Why aren't we all driving one of those then? I wonder if we could go slightly off-topic and discuss air-powered engines while things are quiet in the world of Happy Rhodes :) Does anyone know anything about this? A friend tells me the principle has been used for years in equipment used in underground mines. I suppose the main probem would be the same as with hydrogen: storing enough of it safely while keeping the weight and cost to acceptable level... Allow me just this one political comment: removing our total dependence on oil would indeed be the best possible response to the middle-east situation and the whole 9/11 tragedy - I said so on the very next day and I stand by it. But while not military, it would probably turn out to be the cruelest and most devastating revenge short of nuking the whole region. - --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one." -- A.J Liebling, media critic - -- 15:22:06 up 4 days, 7:43, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.03, 0.20-- ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #33 *************************
