I live at rlovejoy@comcast.net - where the connections are a little above average! When I was born I didn't see my shadow. Guess I had six less weeks of childhood. I'm still an avid reader of ecto, if not the prolific poster I once was after having discovered the stunning music of one H. Rhodes. Ecto recently turned me on to the music of Vienna Teng, who seems to be having more luck with her awesome talent than Happy has had. It's that sort of thing (the luck factor) that kept me away from the music business. That and lack of the talent those two have. Peace to all, and a prayer for the crew of the Columbia and those they left behind. It was used with an advert for an upcoming Channel 4 show called Leonardo's Dream Machines (or something like that) -- in which teams try to follow DaVinci's designs and build his flying machines to see if they really would work. Last season they had Vienna Teng. bye, KrW "It's crackers to slip the rozzer the dropsy in snide!!" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Feb 2003 22:36:07 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: Janis Ian editorial in L.A. Times today From the article: Don't Sever a High-Tech Lifeline for Musicians The Recording Industry Assn. of America recently won a court ruling that effectively will cut off the recording artists it represents from new listeners. In RIAA vs. Verizon, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that anyone suspected of downloading so-called "infringing" files on the Internet -- usually an MP3 of a song -- could be sued. No evidence is required. An accuser fills out a form for a court clerk and the machinery is set in motion. The record companies say this decision will mean more money for musicians, but they have it backward. The downloaded music they're shutting off actually creates sales by exposing artists to new fans. If this ruling stands, many smaller musicians will be hurt financially, and many will be pushed out of the music business altogether. ... http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/suncommentary/la-oe-ian2feb02,0,2630989.story?coll=la-headlines-suncomment Michael ============================================ Michael Curry mcurry@io.com Wake Up -- a weblog http://www.io.com/~mcurry/weblog/wakeup.html ============================================ ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #32 *************************
