Is that not an oxymoron? As Dorothy Parker said on hearing of the death of then-President Calvin Coolidge; "How could they tell?" James is just plain weird and scary to begin with. Hi! Julie, Emil and I have been busy recording our long-awaited OP EP and will be sending out a newsletter soon with information about our CD release party and concert (now slated for the first day of Spring). In the meantime, Valentine's Day approaches, a catalyst for love songs and romantic music. "Return to Me" is one of my favorite love songs. If you are not already familiar with the version on my "decembergirl" CD (with Julie on harmonies), or would like to hear a sample of the music from "one sky" (wrapped in a Balinese sunset), please stop by my site to take a look and a listen at http://www.decembergirl.com/discography.html. Greenman Review calls "one sky" "Soothing, gentle, romantic music _ meditative, thought provoking and utterly beautiful" (you can read the full review at http://www.greenmanreview.com/cd/cd_belica_onesky.html). In the spirit of romance, I will personally inscribe all orders of two CDs or more (any two at all) placed via my website between now and Valentine's Day. If you'd like to author your own inscription, or would like me to personalize it to someone special (yourself included J), simply include what you'd like me to say with your order at http://www.decembergirl.com/buymerchandise.html. You can vie to win a CD (winners may now choose either "decembergirl" or "one sky" as a prize) by entering my 6 degrees contest. The deadline to enter (I suppose there's a theme here) is February 14th. The current question is a shoe-in for music trivia buffs. Here's a hint to get you going_the performer in question was the opening act at the original Woodstock Festival in 1969_ Enter at http://www.decembergirl.com/6degreesofmarina.html. Considering how much like winter it continues to be, it's not too late to give the gift of a "decembergirl" belicabag. Each one is hand-made of fabric adorned with snowflakes and a pocket on the outside to fit your favorite CD. For a limited time you can purchase a bag and CD together at my website for a reduced price. I have news from two close friends that I thought might interest you. Dana Pomfret has released a new CD that's full of soulful song and singing entitled "Real Time" (with much of it recorded that way!), available at http://www.danapomfret.com. And for the ballet dancers among you (or parents of), my college roommate Eliza Gaynor Minden has designed a revolutionary new pointe shoe (recently profiled in The New Yorker) that is taking the ballet world by storm: http://www.dancer.com. Btw, the new Tom McRae received 4/5 stars in today's Guardian. He's a guy, but he's been mentioned here in the past. ===== "Literature stops in 1100. Good cover. Wow, cool! A bunch of us are going to see her at Club Passim in Cambridge tomorrow night - maybe we'll get lucky and she'll do that one. UK ectophiles please take note: Erin McKeown is about to embark upon her first non-North American tour, opening for the Be Good Tanyas. If I had the money, I would definitely be jetting east to check out a bunch of these dates. The complete tour listing is at http://www.erinmckeown.com (or, alternatively, at http://www.nettwerk.ca - Erin seems to have signed with them recently (!)). =================================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =================================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Cadence Carroll & Kellie Lin Knott, 2/9/03 =================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 18:13:16 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: doll Hi, anna maria wondered: >that makes me think..what would a kate doll do? So, I went "mask" shopping....and found this utterly brilliant one that works against everything all the terrorists could hurl at me - be they middle eastern or american ones in police, national guard, or other uniforms. It works against tear gas and pepper spray (not all do) and chemicals and biological agents. The works!!! Plus it has a polycarbonate lens (bullet proof) and....the clincher, a fabbbbulous blue anti-fog nose holder. I am definitely not leaving the house the house without it.... It will live in the truck..... The company I got it from, is getting a tractor trailer load of them this week..... In the event of things escalating, I decided it was best to get one now, while they are available. If you plan on doing protests and/or work in places that are known to be on terrorists hit lists (movie & TV studios, etc), you may want to check these out. They have a 20 year shelf life. I for one, won't be leaving the house without my fabbbbbulous blue anti-fog nose holder...... http://www.approvedgasmasks.com/msa-3000.htm ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #30 *************************
