Being both a night owl, and a quasi-compulsive-taper-of-interesting- music, I've learned that late-night talk shows -- at least the ones that originate in the US -- cram the musical acts in at the very end, typically the final 15 minutes, 20 maximum. This will be a wonderful opportunity for Vienna to get exposure to a wide audience, it just won't be a very lengthy one. Or is she > "still working on the next > album"? The quotes from Kate are old ones. "When MOJO asked her for an interview for this feature, Bush said -- via her business manager since the late '70s -- she wouldn't be talking until the album was out. And when might that be? "How long is a piece of string?" came the reply. "Since early 2001 she has been recording in her new home studio near Reading -- familiar colleagues include former boyfriend Del Palmer engineering and Stuart Elliot." I hadn't realised she'd quit smoking. I'm behind on the times. Go, Kate! The feature isn't bad. But no, not much new news overall. "The best policy for Bush followers seems to be don't despair; don't hold your breath." "When MOJO states the prevailing fond frustration to Andrew Powell -- that there is 'a longing among her fans to fulfill herself artistically' -- he responds cannily, 'Oh, you think she's hasn't? Maybe she gave all she had in her. Or all she was willing to admit to having in her, or to share with us.'" Btw, this issue's focus is on English eccentrics. ;) Ellen PS Dirty Linen came in the post last week also, all the way from the US. I gotta say there is no way the organizers' estimate of half a million people in attendance can be accurate ... but there was a *LARGE* amount of people on the Mall and marching from the Capitol to the Navy Yard. It was a very, very cool thing to see. And *freezing*, to boot -- though I thank all the gods the wind wasn't blowing. And I also thank the gods for whomever invented the thermal unionsuit. And Thinsulate, too. Thinsulate is a Very Good Thing. So I get back and find out that our Vienna is going to be on Letterman!!! Holy crap, batman!!! Congratulations, Vienna. We'll definitely be watching. Yes -- woj usually sets the TiVo to record from 12:15 - 12:35 whenever an interesting musical guest is on Letterman. This generally works out well. >This will be a wonderful opportunity >for Vienna to get exposure to a wide audience, it just won't be a very >lengthy one. Ah, but I remember one night in the spring of 1992, tuning in to Letterman to watch the American television debut of some unknown Canadian named Sarah McLachlan. And look what happened to her. :) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 23:56:18 -0500 From: Tom Masapollo Subject: Any Doors fans out there? Did anyone happen to see the Doors on Jay Leno the other night? After 32 years, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger put today a band without Jim Morrison. The lead singer is Ian Astbury (from the Cult). I was just wondering what anyone else thought of the "new" Doors. They also had Stewart Copeland (Police) on drums because John Densmore couldn't make the tour due to health reasons. There is also a bass player with the band. After seeing the original Doors with Morrison back in the 60's, it was a bittersweet treat to see this. It was still great seeing Ray and Robby performing together again. Break on through, tom ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #18 *************************
