What I do know is that she was in a duo called Eg & Alice, who made one album which was warmly received but sold about 6 copies, and then she went to earth. She had previously been a model and skateboarder, and became vaguely known for being the sometime lover of outspoken US model Rachel Williams. She subsequently appeared on the UNKLE album singing the much-praised Bloodstain, which is seemingly about a heroin habit. Anyway, that's what I DO know - what I don't know is whether her album Hangover was ever actually released. I found a 5-track sampler which had a couple of outstanding songs (particularly Chemical Way), and I've seen full track listings for the album on the net, but I've never clapped eyes on a copy, nor found anywhere I can order it. Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right direction? Did your order take less than 6 weeks to arrive? And have they had any more problems with getting hacked?" I order from them on a fairly regular basis, and have never had any problems. Usually my cd's come within a week if they're listed as being in stock. My last order came yesterday after being ordered Dec. 23 (nearly 4 weeks) but that's the longest shipment time I've ever experienced. I don't really mind the waiting time anyway. If I really wanted something right away, I'd go to the store and buy it. I've never had any problems with my credit card. So that's my experience. I didn't see it listed at HMV Canada when I checked. Didn't think to check A&B Sound, since I scratched them off my list a while ago. Has anyone ordered online from A&B Sound recently (like, within the last year)? Did your order take less than 6 weeks to arrive? And have they had any more problems with getting hacked? FWIW, Don received his CD yesterday, a mere 5 days after amazon.co.uk shipped it. Not bad for the standard shipping option. Yeah, it came to $20 with the exchange rate and all, but at least amazon has a secure server. I'll probably be ordering one of these for myself soon. Just the bits I heard in the background over the phone with Don were tasty enough. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 14:55:32 EST From: SpiritWe@aol.com Subject: **Sage Page: Studio Antics, MidWinter Mini-Tour & More!** "A theatrical performance...sexy vibrato dancing over the piano keys she plays with such grace." - CMJ New Music Report WELCOME, everyone, to the **Rachael Sage/MPress Records Newsletter**, which when recited, recorded & played backwards sounds mysteriously like Pop Rocks Candy (can you tell we've been working too hard?). ___ In any event, we wish you a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR full of health, poetry & magic and are incredibly excited to see you all in the upcoming months! Rich is busy booking Rachael's '03 Spring Tour, Margo is laying the groundwork for the release of the upcoming CD which will be completed by the Spring, & Rachael has recently begun recording the new album with longtime friend/collaborator ANDY ZULLA (who incidentally has had several #1 Hits in on the Billboard Charts lately, including the latest with R&B diva Heather Headly, woo hoo)... Word has it that Rachael's next batch of tunes will attempt to bridge the gap between "when I was a teenager and wanted to be the 'female Howard Jones' and when I finally decided that I liked music a hell of a lot better when I stopped programming all of it myself." Expect lots of lush strings, groovy rhythm tracks & retro-keyboards (Rachael's childhood axe, a Jupiter-8 keyboard once owned by a member of "Journey", has been retrieved from lonely attic storage!) but that's all we're giving away; that and the fact that Rachael has finally named her beloved Wurlitzer "Esther". Below are the details for Rachael's last tourdates until she completes her record...Hope to see some of you there, and keep an eye on the website for new poems, news about the CD and as always, if you'd like Rachael to perform in your area in '03 please send ideas and suggestions to: SageStreetTeam@aol.com. Sorry. I don't mean to sound like a stuck record (or stuttering cd). Personally I like trivial facts that you guys impart on the list. And I assume someone else out there might like trivial facts in return. So I hope you will forgive my Tex-centrism. Anyway, Bob Dorough is a graduate of my Alma Mater, as are many other jazzers. Here's a little article about him in the UNT alum mag. www.unt.edu/northtexan/archives/s01/schoolhouserocker.htm Dorough reminds me of Dave Frishberg, and I love Frishberg. First time seeing her full show and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Reminded me of Leslie Feist and Sarah Harmer (her cd, Distillation, which I picked up at the show, pulled up comparisons to the Nields and Dar. Not all that surprising since Dave Chalfant produced and engineered it.). There was a surprisingly large crowd for her at the club, but apparently she's been playing out here quite a bit for someone who is based in MA. Erin's got some nice guitar chops. Not flashy, but solid. However, she was running one of her guitars through various effects and a volume pedal into the soundboard and either she or the sound guy had the bass eq pumped up big time. Every time she hit the low strings, the subs in front of the stage kicked so hard that I could feel the punch throughout my body and in the walls. The bass was so physical, I thought I was at a rock concert and it obscured whatever intricate work she was doing in the upper registers on the guitar. Her other guitar, a semi-hollow body electric, was plugged into a little amp which was mic-ed and that didn't present any low-end problems. Oh, and finally, I urge you who are in the area of MA or CT to go see the house concerts with Lalo (at Jeff W) and Kellie Lin Knott (at Jeff and at the House o' Muzak). Lalo is incredible to watch and so very talented. What she does with the vibes...ooooh.
