Does anyone know any other group > that has a parent-child lineup like that? > All i could think of was the Judds. "The New Brubeck Quartet", Dave Brubeck and three sons. "The Romeros", the very good classical guitar quartet of Pepe, Celin, Lito, and Celino Romero--two brothers and their sons. Carnie and Wendy Wilson (Wilson Phillips) apparently did an album with their dad Brian (Beach Boys). The Partridge Family ;-) I'd bet there are plenty of folk, country and bluegrass groups with two or three generations of family--I can't think of any names at the moment, but google comes up with several (obscure) groups along the lines of the "Kolev Family Ensemble" or "The Habbestad Family Ensemble" (as well as the less obscure Trapp family). Young classical soloists sometimes tour with a parent as accompanist. Family ensembles aren't all that uncommon in more traditional genres, though I'd guess relatively few such groups become very well known. They seem to be less common in pop, but give it some time. - -dan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jan 2003 08:34:47 -0800 (PST) From: alberto carrasco Subject: Re: creepy? anna maria "stjdrnell" writes: Does anyone know any other group that has a parent-child lineup like that? - --------- For the past 10 years or so, the line-up of Tangerine Dream has included Edgar Froese and his son, Jerome. Interestingly, a photo of Jerome as an infant appears on the cover of the 1973 TD album Atem. Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. In a non-ecto vein: last night I saw Doc Watson. He performed for ages as a duo with his son. Sadly, his son died before he did, and now he often performs as a duo with his grandson! The whole Carter/Cash family thing gets a bit incestuous sometimes :) When I last saw Johnny Cash (with June Carter), he brought out his son for a bunch of songs (he was kind of boring - give me their daughters anyday!). neal now shuffling over: Rivercane - Rivercane Fable - Amy Speace Your Little Secret - Melissa Etheridge All Day Every Day - The Bill Hilly Band Feckless Beast - Feckless Beast ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jan 2003 12:46:30 -0800 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: creepy On Sat, 11 Jan 2003 02:42:51 -0800 (PST) anna maria "stjdrnell" wrote: > Just read about a swedish group called the slaptones > who consists of three sisters and their dad..sounds a > bit creepy to me. And there's the Carter/Cash clan in country. And the Marsalis family (Ellis, Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo, and I think there's another one) work together on occasion. And drummer/producer Denardo Coleman works with both his father, Ornette Coleman, and his mother, Jayne Cortex. And Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon. This gets me to thinking: while there are now a heap of second-generation rockers out there (including, beside those mentioned, Elijah Blue Allman, Dweezil Zappa, Wilson/Phillips, Julian Lennon, Adam Cohen, and I know I'll think of others as soon as I send this message), are there any *third*-generation rockers out there, whose grandparents are rock musicians? Considering the number of players that are in the 60-year old range at this point, I suspect that there are some out there. - -- | jzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | GPG: A4224EFA http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code / VoiceWAVE Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Jan 2003 22:26:46 -0500 (EST) From: dmw Subject: Re: creepy iii On Sat, 11 Jan 2003, Joseph Zitt wrote: > Cohen, and I know I'll think of others as soon as I send this message), > are there any *third*-generation rockers out there, whose grandparents > are rock musicians?
