She did play in NYC at a songwriter's showcase last month, but I was in South Carolina that day. I was surprised to hear her song "This Mystery" playing over the opening credits of a show on TNT the other day (Tuesday?) when I was flipping channels. I don't know if it was a movie or a series, but it was produced by Alyssa Milano and started off with 2 women shopping for maternity clothes, and the pregnant one complaining about all the clothes being pink and ruffly and didn't they have anything in black. It didn't look great, whatever it was, but I'd still be curious to know, if anyone knows what it was. JoAnn PS Thanks, Dave, for the other recommendations. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 06:33:28 -0800 (PST) From: Tom Servo Subject: Happy got a Grammy nomination! (Sorta) In case you hadn't noticed, Will Ackerman's "Hearing Voices" got a Grammy nomination for Best New Age Album. This album opens with "Before We Left All This Behind," which includes a contributing vocal from Ms. Rhodes herself. Is this the first time Happy has been involved in a Grammy-nominated project? T.S. Specific contact info isn't provided yet, but if you want to get in early I'd recommend sending a demo to both Teddy Zambetti, in-house composer/producer and architect of the program, and Larry Rebich, Vice President, Programming & Market Development. Working Artist Group at SIRIUS P.O. Box 5018 New York, NY 10185-5018 - ---- CES, LAS VEGAS, NV January 8, 2003 SIRIUS (NASDAQ: SIRI), the only satellite radio service broadcasting uncompromised coast-to-coast music and entertainment for your car and home, announced today the formation of its new unsigned recording artist program, WAGS Recordings (Working Artist Group at SIRIUS). The program is designed to nurture unsigned artists, expose emerging artists to listeners nationwide with airplay on SIRIUS, and create CDs featuring a variety of this new music. As part of the new WAGS program, SIRIUS will record and produce unsigned artists in its state-of-the-art recording studios located in the heart of New York City. Select songs from these sessions will go into rotation on SIRIUS and CDs featuring these artists will be made available through www.SIRIUS.com, making SIRIUS a leading source for cutting-edge music. This program will benefit the record labels, artists, and our listeners. It reduces the financial risk associated with releasing new artists and gives the artists themselves a chance to demonstrate some traction in the marketplace. And our subscribers reap the benefits of hearing new music first on SIRIUS, said Larry Rebich, Vice President, Programming & Market Development. The biggest hurdles for an artist today are studio time and getting airplay. Now, with our WAGS program, SIRIUS can provide both, said SIRIUS in-house composer/producer and architect of the program, Teddy Zambetti. Our Stream Designers already have their fingers on the pulse of the music scene and are well-positioned to discover new musical talent and bring that new music to our listeners. The mechanics of the program, from the discovery to distribution, will all take place under the umbrella of SIRIUS. Thats because SIRIUS and its Stream Designers create all of the 60 commercial-free music streams on SIRIUS in- house. These Stream Designers are music experts and in many cases, recording artists, not traditional radio program directors. Working with the appropriate SIRIUS Stream Designer, the artist will record a CD in SIRIUS studios. Additionally, a section of www.SIRIUS.com will be dedicated to WAGS in the future with artist info, photos, song lyrics, musician credits, and purchasing information. Every other week, record labels and music publishers will be kept up-to-date on these artists through SIRIUS Notes, the companys industry newsletter. The company will locate the talent through a multitude of sources including music producers, musicians, the club circuit, music conventions, and Sirius- created contests. - --- DanStark ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2003 19:01:24 -0500 From: meredith Subject: RE: 2002 -- year end wrap-up etc... Sounds like an episode of _Charmed_, which Alyssa Milano stars in, as well as produces. TNT shows reruns of it. I haven't seen it in a while, so I don't know for sure if they've changed their opening music -- it used to be a weird cover of "How Soon Is Now". ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #8 ************************
