Anne Heaton/Melissa Ferrick, or Nina Story. While I've seen a 20 minute set by Nina, I would like to see more. However, I am looking for arguments, either way. I'm thinking along the lines of the Heaton/Ferrick show, just because I've seen neither live (nor have *any* music from either). Ideas? TIA! She's up against Johnny Cash, The Chieftains, Steve Earle and Nickel Creek for the award. Pretty kewel if ya ask me. While I haven't heard Patty's album, I really like the other four. But it's weird how things get categorized. Where I work, the other four Contemporary Folk albums are filed under Country, Celtic, Rock/Pop, and Bluegrass, respectively. - -- | jzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | GPG: A4224EFA http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code / VoiceWAVE Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Jan 2003 18:36:21 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: Dilemma Hi, Matt Bittner wondered: >Looks like in February, I have two concerts to choose from (assuming I >can find the money for either). I've never heard Nina Story, but of course I have to vote for the Heaton/Ferrick show. (I'd recommend checking out some sound samples first, of course.) Anne is good live performer, and it's fascinating to watch her sing -- I can't really describe it, except to say that she really gets her whole body into it. Plus, she's just really really cool. (If you go, be sure to say hello to her after the show! She knows what ecto is.) And Melissa is an absolute dynamo. If you like attack guitar of the acoustic variety (a la Ani DiFranco and Pamela Means), you'll love Melissa. (FYI, expect to see a large percentage of the lesbian population of your area in the audience. Like going to an Ani show, only a lot less annoying. :) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jan 2003 01:37:10 -0500 From: "dave" Subject: Re: 2002 -- year end wrap-up etc... I see on Maria McKee's website (www.mariamckee.com) that her new album is scheduled for an april/may release date, and she's planning to back it up with a lot of promotion and touring. Looks like she's gone the route of releasing it on her own label. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V9 #7 ************************
