Looks like four pro and one con. One of the nice things about discovering someone who's been around awhile is that their music can usually be found at the used stores. But I struck out at Half Price Books last night. Darn my wide, eclectic musical tastes though. I still managed to spend $100. Got nine CD's, nine books and two calendars. But no Ms. Kreviasuk. There's a better used CD and Video store in town. I'll hit that one next week when payday comes around again. Individual comments. Further web surfing after I sent out my question discovered one site dedicated to her rude behavior. Don't know what to think or say about that. Another mentioned the Armageddon connection. That movie was so LOUD that I can't remember their being music in it. My hearing must have been numbed from the high decibel level of the movie and I couldn't hear the end credits. Armageddon is playing on the ABC affiliate tonight. I'll have to check it out. I'm no expert on ecto-style music either. There are some artist's that are favorites here, but I don't care for them. And some fave's of mine are panned here. But that's the beauty of art. It's subjective in the extreme. Subject: Carina Round, live at the Borderline Finally got to see Carina Round, creator of the excellent "first blood mystery" last night: she was part of the "Roadworks" series of gigs, singer/songwriters lumped together on the bill. A couple of years ago I saw a Roadworks gig where Thea Gilmore and Tom McRae headlined, along with a couple of forgettables. Last night the bill consisted of two completely forgettables, Jim Lawson and his Band, and Carina. I was disappointed in Jim Lawson -- I saw him open for Veda Hille a couple of years ago, and found him intense, involving, disturbing. This time, however, a full band seems to have diffused a lot of that intensity. Still good, but not as moving. Carina Round, though.....ahhhh, Carina. First of all: she's gorgeous. utterly gorgeous. Her set consisted of nine songs, only three of which come from the album. The rest are all new, part of an album she'll be recording in the new year ("and will be released, probably, in 15 years time"). Her new songs confirmed my PJ Harvey (To Bring You My Love era) comparison. She is sooooo good. With incredible support from her band (special mention to the atmospheric, Marc Ribot-like stylings of guitarist Tom Livemore) she stomped along, took no prisoners. A seductive outpouring of bile, a beautiful, blood-stained caress of the spine. Get her album. Get it now. And watch out for her. If there's any justice (but is there ever?) she should be huge. Apparently, she has fans in high places -- Elbow, Mark Eitzel and....Ryan Adams. She opened for one of his first UK gigs, and they wrote a song in the dressing room together. I'm ambivalent about all of these guys (and that's being polite), but I can't praise Carina Round high enough. GET THE ALBUM!! yours, adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 10:54:18 -0800 From: Birdie Subject: Re: happyrhodes.com Well, with all the hamburgers, hot dogs, nacho's and beers he must be having on the road, I can't imagine he'll last that much longer. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 18:27:33 -0600 (CST) From: kerry white Subject: Techno-help Hi, My old Mitsubishi VCR died, taking my capability of Dubbing DVD to tape with it (my rental copy of Deluxe LoTR has no copy guard at all). I took my oldish Bell and Howell in and got it fixed. I think I tossed the remote and the B&H model number came up "no match" in google.(no B&H VCR came up at all) Anyone have any ideas about how I can find out the protocol used in the B&H remote so I can see if I can find a universal remote that would work. Even if the B&H can't record DVDs I still need the remote to use it for anything. Thanks, bye, KrW In order to learn from your mistakes, make lots of mistakes. Digital TV is coming. Foget about recording anything to tape from it. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #348 **************************
