HMV has a special limited edition version for $9.21. I only have the first one, Under These Rocks and Stones, which is ok. I remember picking it up at a store in Seattle when I traveled the Pacific Northwest with my sister in 1997. And the song "Surrounded" seemed to have a nice life on the adult contemporary pop stations in '98. Very Dawson's Creek friendly. As for her version of "Leaving on a Jet Plane", it was used for the end credits of the greatest movie ever to feature an animal cracker love making scene, "Armageddon." I remember seeing her at the '98 Lilith in Boston and she got several of the other "lesser" artists to join her on a rendition of that song, including Kay Hanley doing the Peter, Paul , and Mary harmonies. She also provided the theme music for NBC's show Providence, a cover of the Beatles' "I Will" Paul ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 14:17:20 +0100 (CET) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: Re: BoA On Wed, 11 Dec 2002, Greg Bossert wrote: > probably because of Yoshimi's Boredoms connection, OOIOO got a US > release and a page in the All Music Guide last year. for those who > haven't found it, the AMG is the best attempt yet (IM-occasionally-HO) > to be the IMDB of music -- it's the first place i go after checking the > Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music. I chatted with her after the show and she signed a CD cover for me and she was quite cordial. Maybe she was just having a Diva Moment or two while she was on stage. Perhaps she was pissed that she was opening for Tara McLean? Who knows. I try not to hold it against her and I still enjoy her music. :) ~Amy www.collectedsounds.com On Wed, 11 Dec 2002 11:02:25 -0800 (PST) kitty kat wrote: > Wow, rude to the audience? And she is supposedly going to appear on the Friday night/Saturday morning edition of Carson Daly's show on NBC tomorrow (or today, depending on when you read this -- confused yet? ;). She was already on the show last month, but while she was there she recorded a lullabye of sorts. Every Friday at the end of the show, Daly has a celebrity actor either read a bedtime story (favorite example: two weeks ago, when Ted Danson read "David Duchovny Is A Big Bastard" ;) or a famous musician sing a lullaby (example: last week James Taylor sang "Sweet Baby James"). Looks like she'll be providing the lullaby this time around. Thanks for the heads-up on Aimee Mann! Didn't know about that one. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 23:59:58 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Susan McKeown and Johnny Cunningham Hi, woj and I just got back from seeing Susan McKeown and Johnny Cunningham's annual winter tour, up at the University of Hartford. That's always an immensely entertaining evening, since Johnny is an utterly insane Scotsman, and he spends most of the show trying to crack Susan up. Since this is a very easy thing to do, the result is one big block of hilarity. But when the music does manage to get going, it's brilliant. Johnny recently broke his wrist in two places, so he's not supposed to be playing the fiddle at all. He's cheating a bit and playing some anyway, but he did bring a guest fiddler with him, a shy young Asian woman named Dana Lin who is one heck of a fiddler. (Of course he introduced her as his daughter. ;) Aidan Brennan, as always, accompanied on guitar. It was pretty much the same show as last year: most of the songs from _A Winter Talisman_, plus a condensed version of _Peter And Wendy_ to round out the second set, and a let's-see-where-we-go-from-here medley for an encore, starting with "Blue Moon" and going through a variety of other such standards as they occurred to Susan, until it all ended with Johnny and the audience singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (with Susan whispering the words to him as it went along). But even though we'd seen it all before, it was still great. Johnny is just so damned funny. This year he had a sheep puppet as a prop, and I'm sure you all can guess just where that led him. ("Why do Scotsmen wear the kilt? Because sheep can hear a zipper from a quarter mile away!" ;>) One interesting tidbit: _Peter and Wendy_ is going to be on Broadway starting next summer. I forgot to ask Susan if she'll be in the house band for that, but I'll try to find out more info. Even though Broadway ticket prices are downright extortionate, I'll have to see it at least once. It is such an incredible, moving show. And afterwards we got to see baby pictures! Roisin Jane McKeown was born on November 8. Alas she was home in NYC with her daddy, so we didn't get to meet her in person this time around. Everyone is healthy and very happy. Yay! Apparently Susan has a gig at Fez booked for December 27, with as many band members and guest musicians as she can gather together. Of course I'll be in Arizona then. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Holly Figueroa, 1/26/03 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 00:20:15 -0500 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Re: Susan McKeown and Johnny Cunningham On Thu, Dec 12, 2002 at 11:59:58PM -0500, meredith wrote: > One interesting tidbit: _Peter and Wendy_ is going to be on Broadway > starting next summer.
