Hola, On the subject of Buffian ecology, have all the street sweepers and sanitation workers been turned into vampires? I think the vampires and demons need to introduce an adopt a spot program for the cleanup of Buffy's town. Have those creatures no civic pride? If every demon put a wad of paper into his/her/its pocket, the town would be sparkling again in no time. It's online at http://www.exploitboston.com . The website has been around for about a month and has been getting a reasonable amount of traffic thanks to a spotlight feature on Movable Type's homepage. I'm interested in conspiring with someone(s) who is knowledgable about Perl web development within the Movable Type content management system. (EB! is published using Movable Type -- http://www.movabletype.org.) I'm also interested in conspiring with people who want to contribute event listings on a regular or irregular basis. Everyone who contributes will of course get a profile/credits on the EB! website. This is a labor of love project and not commercial. Friends in Seattle have a similiar website at http://www.exploitseattle.com if you live in that part of the world. If you're interested in getting involved, let me know. Please reply to me directly and not to Suspects. Thanks! I know there are a few ectophiles out there in New Zealand ... I just found out that Lucy Lawless (yes, Xena, what's it to you? :)is about to go out on tour with Dave Dobbyn. Now, not being from New Zealand I have no clue who Dave Dobbyn is, so that could be akin to going out on tour with, say, Travis Tritt ... but I *love* Lucy Lawless' singing voice, and I would really like an opportunity to hear how this thing is going to go. So, if you (or more likely, someone you know) is planning to go to one of these shows and has the technology to record it, please let me know! I have all sorts of interesting (ecto-related) things to trade. Thanks in advance... ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Chris & Meredith Thompson, 12/8/02 ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Dec 2002 22:31:58 -0700 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: Reminder: House Concert This Weekend At 5:36 PM -0500 12/5/02, meredith wrote: >The Thompsons are twin sisters who harmonize beautifully, and play >an energetic brand of acoustic music, with guitar, congas and flute. >They've become a mainstay at Falcon Ridge in the past few years, and >we know they're going to be a lot of fun to have here. So, how was your show Meredith. I have found them to be a bit too sweet for my tastes, but I've only seen them in passing at Folk Alliance. Jeff and I have been quite remiss at mentioning or reviewing our shows. Seems like we reall should have mentioned the last two, as they were wonderful and very ecto. First up, we had Canadian Lynn Miles, who performed with Keith Glass (of the apparently well known Canadian country band Prairie Oyster). I was surprised that, despite the generally downbeat tone of her albums, Lynn was hilarious. She and Keith bickered like brother and sister. The show was fantastic too. Lynn's latest album "Unravel" was a bit slow to grow on me, but it's totally won me over now. It's a bit more rock and roll then her previous discs, but the song writing is top notch and her vocals are still clear and beautiful. Since we were all set up, we agreed to host Eliza Gilkyson again a few days later. This was the 3rd time Eliza played for us this year, and I would happily go see her again tomorrow. She's such a solid performer and I just like her more and more each time I see her. This time she fronted a trio consisting of a dobro player and a percussionist, which made her songs have a bit more muscle. She also played a new song based on a photograph of kids playing in a polluted pool in Sarajevo that was haunting, touching and beautiful. I haven't been that exposed to her older CD's, but her last two (Lost and Found and Hard Times in Babylon) are just wonderful. Sharp songwriting and a gravellynd evocative voice. She broke both our attendance records (which we really aren't trying to break) and our CD sales records (which we are happy to break). Next up is Rivercane, a local Celtic/World music ensemble, this Thursday. They will be the largest group we've hosted (6 people, including a harp, cello and string bass!). neal np: Greatest Hits - Janis Joplin ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #342 **************************
