Being one of the oldest ectophiles around - and probably one of the first from NE - (although taking about three years off the list for personal reasons) it's good to see others from this state enjoy ecto-ish music. The next CD I buy new, unless it's given me as a Christmas gift, will be the newly released soundtrack to "The Wicker Man." And as it often happens, after a few years they finally released their first EP, and then promptly disbanded. This was around 97. Maxine went to England, while Ken reappeared in the local electonica outfit Kinetic (which I also championed while they were around)... And that could well be the end of the story - except now Kinetic broke up, Maxine returned from her travels, and Bainmaries reformed. At least for a couple of gigs, and to release their CD which as it turns out was all ready to go back then, but got shelved when the band broke up. Well better late than never - I'm just glad this record finally gets to see the light of the day, because it's an absolute gem. The sticker says, "soaring melodies and textured 3 minute pop" and that's actually a pretty good description. If you listen to bands like Over The Rhine, Tresspasser William, or perhaps Bettie Serveert, chances are you'll enjoy this one... and because I don't really believe in descriptions, I put two tracks on my server for a week or so; download them and hear for yourselves! And if you ask yourself, "yes, but do I need more guitar-driven pop?" may I answer: "when it's that good, than yes, definitely" :) Getting it might be a challenge, but try either chaosmusic.com, or get in touch with me, I'm open to offers of trade... - --------------------------------------------------------------------- "In the struggle of Good against Evil, it's always the people who get killed." -- Eduardo Galeano - -- 11:56:31 up 4 days, 16:17, 1 user, load average: 0.66, 0.20, 0.07-- ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #314 **************************
