A warning: Beth hasn't been sitting at home for the past couple of years listening to cinematic instrumental hip hop. What she has been listening to, and in turn created is a simultaneously skeletal and lush album in the British folk tradition. At times accompanied only by acoustic guitar, other times with full strings, grand piano and organ, "Out of Season" maintains a sense of grandeur in space. The overall tone will be familiar to Portishead fans -- sober and introspective. But the backdrop has more to do with Nick Drake and even David Axelrod than early-'90s trip hop. Intimate, desperate and hauntingly beautiful, "Out of Seaon" is already being hailed by many as a contender for album of the year. I would love to read the article. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Marcel Rijs Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2002 12:28 AM To: ecto@smoe.org Subject: Happy Rhodes in Dutch fanclub mag Dear all, Those of you with a good memory will remember that I wrote to ecto a coupla months ago asking for background info on Happy. Some of you responded, and if I didn't thank you already, *thank you*! During the weekend I received the autumn issue of the Frank Boeijen (he's a Dutch singer, but you can even find him in the Guide!) fanclub magazine, and they actually printed my article! With a few thousand subscribers this should have reached a fair amount of Dutch listeners, hopefully some of them will deem it interesting enough to check out Happy's music. They edited out a few interesting facts, but most of the article is intact, including the web references to auntiesocialmusic.com and smoe.org. If you're interested I can translate the article and send it through to here. I feel good knowing that I did some HappyVangelizing again! :-) Kind regards, Marcel Rijs - marcel.rijs@kb.nl afd.
