Some of you responded, and if I didn't thank you already, *thank you*! During the weekend I received the autumn issue of the Frank Boeijen (he's a Dutch singer, but you can even find him in the Guide!) fanclub magazine, and they actually printed my article! With a few thousand subscribers this should have reached a fair amount of Dutch listeners, hopefully some of them will deem it interesting enough to check out Happy's music. They edited out a few interesting facts, but most of the article is intact, including the web references to auntiesocialmusic.com and smoe.org. If you're interested I can translate the article and send it through to here. I feel good knowing that I did some HappyVangelizing again! :-) Kind regards, Marcel Rijs - marcel.rijs@kb.nl afd. Now, I will definitely need to check that out. What song is she on? She sings on a song called SPARKS. It's has a bit of a PORTISHEAD feel to it - - though I think it might just be the way they processed/recorded her voice. And I have to say that I think I like the ROYKSOPP CD more than AIR, though I did listen to MOON SAFARI a heck of a lot when I first got it. I should probably give 10,000HZ LEGEND another spin, but at the time that I got it, I was less than impressed with it. I feel like I'll be listening to MELODY A.M. for awhile. > On the subject of the Ltd Edition Tori DVD, can anyone tell me if the copies > they've gotten are region specific ? Or are they Region 0 ? I've seen > some websites advertise it as being Region 1 but wondered if they're just > assuming a default as they're using a US distributor. According THEDENT.com the US version is Region 1 (NTSC) and the UK version is Region 2 (PAL). It apparently is also available in Australia and Europe as well as Canada, but no mention of the coding for those (Canada is Region 1 I believe, and I believe Europe is Region 2, but I am not familiar with Australia's region). The UK version of the DVD is missing a lot of the "extras" because of the rules and regulations regarding scoring a hit on the chats. So that kinda sucks for them. And thanks everyone for the TORI ltd edt input. I just got a late birthday present of a CD that I already have (THE BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER MUSICAL CAST RECORDING) and I'll probably just return it and get the TORI ltd edt. Irvin NP: THE BLOOD GROUP. Anyone heard of them? Their EP EVERYTHING FORGOTTEN GATHERS AT THE CEILING is quite tasty. My musical mind is not functioning properly or I would come up with fabulous appropriate comparisons. The only things I can think of is THE ALUMINUM GROUP but I think that may be just because their names are similar. No no, there's something rather laidback and future-electro-lounge without the KITCH factor that I think relates the two. Except THE ALUMINUM GROUP is much more sophisticated in their songwriting. That's not to denigrade their ep. Hmmmm. I can't think right now. Oh yeah, THE ALUMINUM GROUP, by the way, have a new album out as well, which I have yet to get. Hmmmm. Perhaps I will pick that up as well when I go and get the TORI CD/DVD. It's called HAPPYNESS. Damn. Too much music. Not enough money. Isn't that all of our problems here on ECTO? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Nov 2002 09:41:07 +0000 From: "Adam K." Subject: Dylan 1966/ "Judas!" I just found out, from a friend who attended the infamous concert with him that Keith Butler -- the man who yelled "Judas!" so audibly at Dylan at his 1966 UK concert -- has just died of cancer, age 66. I remember reading an interview with him when they released the album a couple of years ago. If you haven't got this album, get it. I've never been a Dylan fan, but this is one hell of an album --combative in its atmosphere, you can feel the tension in the air as he goes electric. adam k. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Nov 2002 01:55:21 -0800 From: "John Zimmer" Subject: Re: LISA GERMANO, TORI DVD, and ROYKSOPP Andrew McCarthy schrieb: > On the subject of the Ltd Edition Tori DVD, can anyone tell me if the > copies > they've gotten are region specific ? I checked all over the disc itself, as well as the sleeve, and couldn't find any indication of region coding at all, just that it's NTSC. That would make me suspect it's probably region 1, but that's only a suspicion. John ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Nov 2002 08:39:28 -0500 From: Mark Chapman Subject: Sigur Ros in D.C. last night Sigur Ros, from Iceland, put on a stunning 100+-minute set last night at the Lincoln Theatre here in Wash., DC. I hope someone else from this list was able to attend. The crowd was 95% "young people" (I'm a crickety 44-year-old fart), and was very respectful and appreciative. After a crashing, thunderous finale, the crowd gave them a standing ovation for probably ten minutes, during which the band simply came out twice and bowed with great return appreciation. I found it quite moving. If you haven't heard about SR, try to find some sound clips on the web. It's lovely, cerebral, emotive, plaintive, etc. What a great way to start the week, and end my string of four live shows in four nights (various artists).
