It's not the most user friendly site. The only information on the two new self released CD's is listed under the "want to buy something" link. Click on it and it should take you to the same information that I think I mentioned a couple of months ago. Two new CD's. Suppose to come out in October. Where to send the check and how much they cost. Anyway I hope that helps. In the meanwhile, can anyone tell me if the TORI AMOS DVD set is worth getting? Has anyone actually watched the DVD? Just wondering what is on it. I know that thedent.com has a full listing of the content, I am just wondering about people's opinions on the DVD and if it is worth getting for that. Thanks Irvin. Ps. I am loving the ROYKSOPP CD MELODY A.M. I haven't heard anyone mention them on the list, but the CD is a great bit of ELECTRONICA. I came across them because they had remixed a song for the KINGS OF CONVENIENCE remix album called VERSUS (the KINGS OF CONVENIENCE are another NORWEGIAN band that I fans of NICK DRAKE or BELLE AND SEBASTIAN would really like). VERSUS was a downbeat remix of KoC's stuff, by artists like LADYTRON and ROYKSOPP. Anyway MELODY A.M. Is great and features mostly instrumental stuff with a few choice songs that have guest vocalists including ANNELI MARIAN DRECKER of BEL CANTO as well as ERLEND OYE from KINGS OF CONVENIENCE. A bit of a mix of AIR, PORTISHEAD, 80's electronic house, and that sort of 70's electronic composed arty PORN music. Somehow it all blends quite nicely together. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2002 07:19:37 EST From: AzeemAK@aol.com Subject: Morvern Callar PROSELYTISING ALERT! I just had to put a word in for this brilliant, extraordinary film, which opened in London on Friday. Samantha Morton's performance will secure another Oscar nomination, if there is any justice. She's like an alien gone native. The film looks like a dream, exquisitely framed and composed, but without any Peter Greenaway-esque attention seeking. Fabulous soundtrack too, highlights including a canter through a supermarket to the strains of Some Velvet Morning, and some real gallows humour in a grisly scene which is accompanied by the Velvet Underground's jaunty I'm Sticking With You. If I can persuade one person to see this film who wouldn't otherwise have seen it, I feel I will have added just a little to the sum of human happiness :-) For background about the story and the making of the film, there's a terrific feature in The Guardian, the link for which is below. http://film.guardian.co.uk/interview/interviewpages/0,6737,804865,00.html OK, my work here is done... I like the limited edition set because you get the little extras, like the map detailing "Scarlet's walk" (which like Meredith, I still don't really get), the lyrics, the stickers, etc. The DVD is just OK, though. I was hoping for the actual promo videos. But instead, the DVD just has random filmed images and snapshots, which seem to be from the album photo shoot, accompanied by "A Sorta Fairytale," "Taxi Ride," and "Gold Dust." You can also listen to Tori's audio commentary on all three tracks. She talks about the genesis of the album, but it's not particularly illuminating. > Ps. I am loving the ROYKSOPP CD MELODY A.M. I have heard some Royksopp stuff and liked it, but I had no idea Anneli was on the CD! Now, I will definitely need to check that out. What song is she on? Or are they Region 0 ? I've seen some websites advertise it as being Region 1 but wondered if they're just assuming a default as they're using a US distributor. The same question goes for the new U2 Best of compilation released today with Ltd Edition B-Sides CD and Ltd. Edition DVD. Has anyone gotten this and is it region specific ? Lastly, I strongly recommend Royksopp's Melody AM. The nearest comparision I'd draw is Air's Moon Safari, though not the same it captures a very similar mood. I'd predict this CD is going to be in quite a few top tens at the end of the year. andrew _________________________________________________________________ Surf the Web without missing calls! I haven't had a chance to do more then look over the goodies. I like the whole package though. I haven't seen the actual CD yet (though I advanced ordered a copy, so I will eventually). But Jeff told me that Best Buy had them on sale for $16.99 (as opposed to $13.99 for the regular CD). At that price, it seemed silly to pass it up. neal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2002 08:19:49 -0800 From: "Kira Barnes" Subject: Re: new tori album Greg Bossert wrote: >(slumped over desk, snoozing...) huh, whazzat?! 42! Hopefully they'll be waiting for me when I get home today. And hopefully all of us American ectophiles will go to the polls tomorrow. (very little, most likely). i have this vague memeory of either Calvin or Charlie Brown trying "Lincoln, Nebraska" as an answer when woken up by the teacher. but maybe i made that up; i do that a lot. it may be too late now (sorry!) but over the last month my local Tower has had a *lot* of CDs at $9.99 -- a bit of patience flipping through discs turned up some great finds, ecto-ish and otherwise. on my last visit the pile had disappeared, but maybe they're just reorganizing... speaking of Lisa Germano, was there any mention of the Neil Finn concert video featuring Ms. Germano on keyboards, violin, and backing vocals? oh, and ukulele: she plays ukulele with Eddie Vedder. the concert was great. the concert coverage is less so: kind of an amateur editing job, i thought. anyway, i believe the DVD is now available.
