Hey y'all :) I went to see David Poe tonight at Fez, hadn't seen him in lliterally, like...4 years probablt (since he signed with Sony). He is an unbelievable writer, every time I hear his songs it kicks my ass to o home and write...always a good sign! Tonight was an interestig if not somewhat chaotic/loose set; his band was awesome, especially this young keyboard/guitarist/singer wonderboy named Phil Kronenberg or something like that (hard to understand when it was announced), one of the most amazing players I'd ever seen. He rocked out on wurlitzer, some weirdo analog synth, piano & electric guitar and sang awesome harmonies. I wanted to hijack him ha ha. Alas he's heading of to Europe in a few days for several months... Sim Cain, Dacid's drummer, is incredibly talented and has an amazing style/senseof dynamics but at this gig he just seemed really (to put it mildly) drunk/stoned to the point well past cute or rock 'n roll and just...well, he seemed to kind of completely take over David's show with his antics/comments and by the end of the set it had gotten pretty irritating. Nonetheless, the band had spirit, the songs were great as always and I am definitely going to buy the new record. He played my favorite song "Apartment" as an encore, and even did a swanky cover of "I've Got the World on a String" (I think that's what it's called) and several of his new tunes just plain made me wanna get out of my seat and dance they were so groovy in a doors-meets-beck-meets-moby kind of way; he definitely has a retro-yet-loop/groove thing happening on the newer material. Alas it was Fez so dancing is taboo. I highly recommend David's music. Kind of ecto-ish...not totally though. I would say he's sort of Elvis Costello (arrangement-wise)-meets-Jeff Buckly (vocally)-meets Crowded House/The Beatles (melodically), yes that is obviously high praise, those being 3 of my very favorites. xoxo & peace to all. just wanted to recap that cuz I've never seen his name come up on this list and great (non-cryptic), intelligible lyricists who happen to also sing like angels are not easy to come by, especially so young (and cute *sorry* it slipped out). I bought the baby-t, so I guess I'm officially a groupie, except I know him from years ago when he used to do sound at CB's Gallery so maybe that lets me off the hook! xoxo rachael (hi meredith! don't look now...I'm not lurking hee hee :) * * * www.rachaelsage.com www.mp3.com/rachaelsage 1.877.TRU.SAGE * * * ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 07:32:21 +0100 From: tim@palare.demon.co.uk Subject: Re: Tori on UK TV Tonight >'lo ectofolk. > >Just heard that Tori Amos is one of the guests on V. At least Tori played out with her new single so it was worth staying up for :-) Tim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 04:15:56 -0700 From: "The Ectophiles' Guide" Subject: Recent changes to the Ectophiles' Guide Latest changes to the Ectophiles' Guide 20 October 2002 New Guide entries added for: * Veronica Charnley Changes made to the entries for: * UK Heights (new album) * The Waifs (additional comments) * Wendy Waldman (additional comments) * Wendy Wall (new album) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are receiving this email because you have asked to be notified of updates to the Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music at http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/. I wonder if they'd discussed ahead of time what they could and could not say. He asked her about the Peabody Institute; she mentioned that they kicked her out. He'd written to the institute and received a reply about how proud they were of Tori Amos... And sent a picture of their famous spiral staircase that would be sure to evoke her memories of Peabody. Nope. It didn't. :) Ellen ===== "Literature stops in 1100. After that, it's just books." - -- JRR Tolkien Y!
