Rachael Sage Tonight (Tues) @ The Bottom Line!** Hey ectofolk! Just got back from Nashville where we had a blast & met lots of great new indie artists at the 2NMC Conference. Hey I wanted to pick everyone's brain for a mix CD that I am thinking about making. I'm trying to create a work out mix CD. Something dance orientated or at least with beats enough to drive me on the elliptical machine, but I'm tired of either putting throwaway pop songs or gay dance anthem dance songs on my workout CD's - I get so bored that I end up making a mix CD every two months. I guess I'm looking for something with more staying power. It came to my realization that though there is definitely a category of ecto friendly electronica stuff that people on the list have mentioned, no one has mentioned either dance or remixed ecto songs on the list. Can anyone help me out with ecto related dance/remix songs? I've recently came across a remix of JEWEL's SERVE THE EGO which apparently is on the BILLBOARD's DANCE CHART as we speak. Other songs I will probably put on the CD will include BT featuring TORI AMOS' BLUE SKIES but not her PROFESSIONAL WIDOW remix since I thought I was annoying and overplayed. Probably something from the the SARAH MCLACHLAN REMIXED CD. I'll probably skip the UTAH SAINT'S song that samples KaTe BUSH's CLOUDBUSTING song, because I found it rather tedious. I have no interest in that RUNNING UP THE HILL dance cover that came out around the same time. I thought is horrible. In truth I've never found dance covers to be all that good (that SUNDAY's dance cover did nothing for me, nor the TWIST IN MY SOBRIETY or CONSTANT CRAVING covers - some songs just weren't meant to be dance songs , or at least they need to be revamped properly, not just sung straight with a europop synthbeat thrown in behind it). Anyway I'll probably put something on there by LAMB as well as something by BJORK (though what, I haven't figured out yet). Anyway if anyone knows of other ECTO remixes or songs that that would work I would really appreciate. I think I vaguely remember a really good bootleg remix of HORSES by TORI AMOS....hmm.... I'll have to go and dig that up. I caught the end of the movie "Joy Ride" while cleaning up at work last night. It was a chiller/thriller that starred Paul Walker, Leelee Sobieski, and Steve Zahn. Anyways, Caroline Lavelle's song "Anxiety" off of her second album _Brilliant Midnight_ was used over the end credits. My favorite song on the album, too. And while perusing the end credits, I noticed that Sarah Slean also had a song used for the movie. Go Angels! Sarah McGoblin and Nettwerk are putting out a kid's album to benefit music education for children november 5th. it's called "For the Kids" and features the following tracklisting: 1. Cake - Mahna Mahna (Muppet Show) 2. Barenaked Ladies - La La La La Lemon (Sesame Street) 3 Sarah McLachlan - The Rainbow Connection (Muppet Movie) 4. Guster - I've Got To Be Clean (Sesame Street, Bert's song) 5. Dan Zanes - Wonderwheel (original) 6. Glen Phillips - Have A Little Fun (original) 7. Five For Fighting - The Hoppity Song (original) 8. Billy Bragg & Wilco - My Flying Saucer (Woody Guthrie) 9. Darius Rucker - It's All Right To Cry 10. Ivy - Sing (The Carpenters) 11. Remy Zero - Bright Eyes (Watership Down) 12. Dan Wilson - Willie The King (original) 13. Bleu - Snow Day (original) 14. Chantal and Raine Maida - Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Mozart) 15. Not sure whether this falls under the category of "ecto friendly electronica," but what drives me on the elliptical machine these days is the *Run Lola Run* soundtrack. It's so well suited it makes me begin to wonder whether the movie was just an excuse to sell workout CDs. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Oct 2002 02:11:09 +0000 From: "Lyle Howard" Subject: I Will Always Love You Greetings, Here is a bit of political/musical trivia I heard on the radio the other day. Saddam Hussein is running for reelection right now (I can only assume he has no opposition) and his theme song is "I Will Always Love You." I gather it is the Whitney Houston version. I wonder if Dolly Parton is getting royalty checks from Saddam? Can you imagine the TV commercial you could make using images from the Hussein years, with Whitney warbling in the background? At least he didn't pick a Happy tune. Lyle nr. Odd John. Olaf Stapeldon _________________________________________________________________ Get a speedy connection with MSN Broadband. Also, they only ship via Fed Ex, and the most inexpensive shipping choice costs $12.74; that's more than my order (were there not a minimum charge). Does anyone else have any other ideas?
