Froufrou are appearing at the Kashmir Klub tonight. Check out the website, www.kashmirklub.com. They'll probably only be playing 4 songs, but it's a great little venue anyway. Azeem in London PS Mel Garside used to play there quite a lot too. She's a very charismatic and compelling live performer, quite intense, always performs barefoot; and she's got some terrific songs which I hope will see the light of day. But beware her first (and I think only) album Fossil, which isn't very good, and which I understand she's not that wild about herself ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 10:00:19 EDT From: AzeemAK@aol.com Subject: Christine Collister Anyone going to see the Isle of Man's greatest gift to the world on her about-to-start UK tour? The dates are on her website: www.thebeesknees.com then click on her name. I have seen many many great singers in my time: kd lang, Bonnie Raitt, Chrissie Hynde, Aaron Neville, Mathilde Santing, etc etc etc - and NEVER have I seen and heard a more beautiful voice or a deeper communicator of a song. Do yourselves a favour, good people, and find out for yourselves if you have a chance! She is a perfect cross between Liz Phair and the lead singer from Bettie Serveert. She also sounds a lot like Aimee Mann in vocal delivery... however, that goes along with the Phair comparison because when I listen to Bachelor Number 2, I'm somewhat reminded of the classic "Guyville." Anyhow, I recommend her most recent album from last year called, "Wonder, Wonder." The album was engineered by Steve Albini, but NOT produced (thank God). The most important aspect is that her voice is not drowned out by the music. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 17:45:26 +0200 (CEST) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: Velvet Belly news Hi, Sadly enough there are are no good news this time. After Lucia Velvet Belly did part with their record label, so now they got a finished album but no label to release it on. Hopefully it will all work out well in the end, but for now the release date is very uncertain. - -- Yngve n.p. Yes. We have to miss the New Milton date because I'd already booked Altan tickets in Basingstoke that night. Therefore, we are going to see Collister in Basingstoke. I'm actually pleased we're going there instead of New Milton, which is closer to home. The Anvil show in Basingstoke is one of their Sunday lunch shows. It's in the foyer -- VERY small and intimate audience. You get a ploughman's lunch before the show, then you sit and listen to a very intimate concert. (I've been to these before. :) Her new album is out soon also. I last saw her in July of 2001 at Union Chapel in London. Richard Thompson brought her on as a surprise guest during his encore.
