Granted, the new album is still very identifiable as Coldplay, just a little more varied and mature. But for me, that's exactly what I would hope for in a second album. > I'm not one that believes that a band needs to take a huge leap forward > on every CD they release. I don't think drastic leaps in style are necessary. Ocassionally, it works wonderfully well. I think Everything But the Girl's _Walking Wounded_ is a masterpiece. It was a complete change in musical style for them, yet it still retained all of the elements of the group I had come to love in their past work. Meanwhile, as much as I like _Kid A_ and _Amnesiac_, I feel like Radiohead has become lost in the experimentation and it's hard for me to see them as the same group anymore. On the other hand, artists can definitely err on the side of not changing enough. That's kind of how I feel about the new Aimee Mann. Every song is very well-crafted, but it just sounds like a bland version of _Bachelor No. 2_. Nothing stands out for me because I feel like I've heard all of the songs before. Just my 2 cents, Stuart ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Sep 2002 11:25:54 -0700 From: "Bill" Subject: Re: Altazor? When looking for their albums I tried to contact the label, Redwood Records, to no avail; their phone number (listed on one of the albums) was no good. I was able to get their second album, _Concurrencia_, from www.towerrecords.com; they (Tower) seem to have a good collection of out-of-print and rare titles available for shipment. Their first album, _Altazor_, is better in my opinion; I got this album through the generosity of Neile Graham. Upon checking www.towerrecords.com, both albums seem to be available, for USD 14.99 each. - - Bill G. np: Bill's Grinder's Mix (just love that CD recorder) nr: Mafalda 2 (comic strip) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Sep 2002 21:49:48 -0700 From: Birdie Subject: VoiceWAVE Joseph, Has "feldMorph" been recored yet? Or is there any plans? Ways to get MP3's etc?? Cheers Birdie VoiceWAVE is a new vocal ensemble exploring the possibilities for expression and communication in structured improvisation. For this performance, VoiceWAVE includes: Tom Bickley J. D. Buhl Brad Fischer Bob Marsh Matthew Priest Jesse Quattro Aurora Rising Katherine Setar Caroline Smith Joseph Zitt The performance will include the West Coast premiere of Joseph Zitt's score "feldMorph", as well as his "Tapas", which has also been performed by the Cornelius Cardew Choir and by other groups around the country. Both scores appear in Zitt's book "Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems" (http://www.josephzitt.com/books/smwb.php) "feldMorph" was composed as a tribute to the music of Morton Feldman, in an attempt to emulate his music through improvisational methods. "Tapas" creates a rapidly-changing set of improvisations by different subsets of the group. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Sep 2002 22:05:02 -0700 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: VoiceWAVE On Mon, 09 Sep 2002 21:49:48 -0700 Birdie wrote: > Has "feldMorph" been recored yet? I would like to put the recording online, and am speaking with someone who may host the MP3. We'd also love to record it for a "real" CD, but that might take some more planning and funding. - -- | josephzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #252 **************************
