Pravatiner" Subject: Zoom I was well beyond the target age group, but I used to be a casual _Zoom_ viewer in the early 70s. Channel 11 here in Chicago ran it on Sunday mornings, and so it was part of my background sound while reading the Sunday papers--Channel 11 as a whole was better for the intellect than most of the stuff the commercial channels ran in those time periods. Unfortunately, _Zoom_'s cult following is probably smaller than that of _The Brady Bunch_, so as long as Old Navy is set on appealing to the hearts and minds of the masses, rather than the cognoscenti, you can guess what they will pattern their ads after. Then again, if they want to try appealing to class over mass, well... :-) Mitch ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2002 23:40:44 -0700 From: John Sandoval Subject: Re: ecto-digest V8 #235 At 01:55 AM 8/25/02 -0400, Jeff wrote: >Meth sez: > > > Did you watch > > _Zoom_? I'm a hair over the target demographic as well, but I definitely remember watching it with my younger sisters. This would have been in Iowa City. I remember watching with fascination an episode that gave instructions for making a simple AM radio using wire wrapped around empty aluminum cans. Once a geek, always a geek... :) John ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Aug 2002 01:50:05 -0700 From: irvin lin Subject: Buffy.... > From: "Lord Tyr" > > I have loved every Episode/Season so far... I think it suppose to come out this winter. I have Season 1 and 2 but I have the rest on video thanks to FX reruns and my friend who taped them when they originally aired. The nice thing about the DVD release in the US version, is the extra commentary modes and bonus features. I hear that SETH GREEN just finished taping his commentary for the fourth season DVD set. Can't wait to see that. Personally Season 3 was my favorite. Followed by Season 2, then 1 and 5. Season 4 was pretty hit or miss, and Season 6 pretty much had three or four decent episodes, and there rest were terrible. The worst episode by far being DOUBLEMEAT PALACE. Ugh. What bothered me about Season 6 wasn't the themes that they dealt with (I think the idea of growing up and dealing with the confusion and loss of early 20's was a wonderful concept), but the terrible writing, and lack of sophistication that the previous seasons had. What I loved about BUFFY was that horrible ordeals of being a teenager were dealt with on so many layers and levels. Season 6 pretty much collapsed the show into a parody of itself, shedding every layer and simplifying the show into a terrible teen melodrama. A lot of people complained that the season was too dark and depressing. That wasn't my complaint. I thought a lot of Season 2 was dark and depressing. Season Six was just plain poorly written and executed. I do hope that JOSS comes back and fixes up Season 7. That or just end the show. I'd rather a great show end than drag on and on. At least then, JOSS can concentrate his time on better shows like ANGEL or the potential GILES/RIPPER spin-off. There is a nice little cable television station that has been showing those old PBS kids shows from the Sesame Workshop (Children's Television Workshop). It's called Noggin (after 6 PM, it's called "N" and shows teen oriented PBS and Nickelodeon programs). I stumbled across it because I was Google searching the show Square One (Mathnet, specifically) and saw that Noggin was showing it on weekends. Then I noticed that they showed Sesame Street stuff, Zoom, and other things. They changed their format back in April, though, and Square One is now on at 3 in the morning on wednesdays (aiee!) www.noggin.com www.the-n.com Hmmm...it looks like Zoom still airs all over the nation. With the rugby shirts too. www.pbskids.org By the way, I hate those Old Navy commercials. Hey, anyone out there like them Joe Boxers ads with the black guy dancing around in his boxers like a bunny on crack? I do. Not only was the theme song infectious buy I will forever know the zip code in MA at that time as part of the closing theme, when they sang the address for WGBH, "Oh-Two-One-Three-Four". Not only that I remember there one girl who had pig tails that instead of being on the right and left side of her head, were on the front and back of her head :) Rod ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Aug 2002 17:32:24 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: ectophiles doing houseconcerts? Funny, I was going to post the same thing. That's got to be one of the catchiest zip codes in history. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #236 **************************
