Oh how I berate myself! I'm surfing the net at work, checking up on what artists are up to and I find out that Eleanor McEvoy is finally touring the U.S. in support of her latest album and she JUST PLAYED L.A. FRIDAY NIGHT! I suck. I suck so hard. www.eleanormcevoy.net has the rest of her tourdates for the U.S. If anyone goes to see her, say hi to her for me. I've been waiting to see her again and I miss the opportunity. *sigh* Frou Frou's Details is out this week. That's Imogen Heap's new album with Guy Sigsworth. at least that's something that I don't have to worry about missing. Bic Runga has a new album out in Oz and NZ called Beautiful Collision. Oh crap. She played at Largo in L.A. last month. Why must you mock me so much, fate?! mental note: peter gabriel, peter gabriel, peter gabriel; neko case in november; peter gabriel peter gabriel. Looked like a good night. I adored Eleanor's self-titled album, but wasn't very interested in the pure pop makeover that I saw from a video for the follow-up (which I didn't buy). What's the new one like? neal np: Through The Trees - The Handsome Family nr: Apricots from Chernobyl - Narratives b Josip Novakovich ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2002 19:01:23 EDT From: Jessweiser24@aol.com Subject: Re: eleanor mcevoy tour, frou frou, bic, blah blah blah fishcakes paul (hi paul!!) writes: > Bic Runga has a new album out in Oz and NZ called Beautiful Collision. It hasn't been readily available in the states as far as I can tell, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to see her in concert, so that I could pick up a copy easily. Apparently, it's a return to the sound of the first album. Much more basic in instrumentation, less poppy. She also had a baby this past January, which I think delayed her touring in the U.S. a bit. Interesting that Eleanor McEvoy, Sarah Mclachlan, and Tara MacLean all had babies around the same time, huh? Attack of the Macs! For those who haven't nabbed this disc, out in June, it's something of a return to form with respect to _Passion_, though this time with an australian aboriginal bent rather than the middle eastern bent of _Passion_. It's moody, atmospheric, and really wonderful. jeff (also anxiously awaiting the release of _Up_ on 9/24) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2002 22:03:54 -0400 From: "Bill Adler" Subject: RE: eleanor mcevoy tour Yola's an excellent album! Strong lyrics, terrific sounding music. A few years ago, I had a chance to see Eleanor McEvoy perform at Ireland Four Provinces in Washington, DC when she was doing a tour for Snapshots. (Best song on Snapshots: "Did You Tell Him?") Irelands Four Provinces is a noisy pub, but McEvoy put on a great show nonetheless. - --Bill n.p. Wahhhh! *Now* I read all these messages, after passing up a copy of "Snapshots" in the 50-cent bin at Rasputin's. Unfortunately, I don't exactly know *which* Rasputin's but it was in a suburb in the Bay Area, where I was driving around lost (as usual). Oh, duh, looking at the receipt I see it was in San Lorenzo. But I did pick up a solo disc from the percussionist from Vas (I see the singer has at least one solo CD out too), a pop a cappella disc, a disc of computer music by The Hub, and. most excitingly, a live recording of 20th Century a cappella religious choral works by The Esoterics, all from the 50-cent bin. Yay. - -- | josephzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #223 **************************
