The vocal just grates on my nerves when listening to it. I love the music to "Forbidden Colors/Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" and don't feel the vocals add anything to it. It's totally based on the sound for me, and I actually tried to listen to other things by David Sylvian and found I just don't care for his voice. I will relay more information as I get it. I'd love to set up Kym at one of these Ecto Living Room concerts, but I just don't think there's going to be the time at this point, though any suggestions to the contrary are welcome. Sorry for the last-minute headsup, but things have definitely been swingin' along at a triple-espresso pace lately here at MPress Records. In addition to just shooting her very first video for her song "My Precious Love" (special thanks to LACH & The Sidewalk Cafi for their amazing support on this project), Rachael's been touring virtually nonstop since the release of her new CD, "ILLUSION'S CARNIVAL". Her album continues to chart on over 130 AAA & College radio stations nationwide! (Please check www.rachaelsage.com & go to the "Radio" link for a list of request-lines)... * * * Recently she participated in the ATLANTIS MUSIC CONFERENCE which was a very groovy industry/artist hang, then appeared with fellow UrbanMuse & other indie-peers at an extremely communal & successful ADOPTABAND.COM showcase in NYC. Thanks to everyone who came out to support these awesome events! Extra special thanks to all the folks we met last month in the South - we connected with so many amazing people in NC, SC & GA...This week she'll be hitting the Midwest for the second time this season, as well as Canada & Massachusetts later in the month. Round 1: Amanda Thorpe (I think this was Amanda Thorpe who went first; she never actually introduced herself) Terami Hirsch Amy Fairchild Jo Davidson Amy Speace Round 2: Rachael Sage Debby Schwartz Sylvia Tosun Derwyn Monaghan Everybody was good. Standouts were Terami Hirsch, who I mainly went to see. She has her new album, To the Bone, for sale with her (plus Stickfigures and All Girl Band). She did 4 songs from the new album, which sounded great. She played her keyboard and had a guy with her doing bass and beats (I think, or something like that). The vocals were kind of buried on the second song, but her piano playing is wonderful, and I love the way she curls her voice. Based on what I heard, the new album should be fantastic. I highly recommend catching her in these next few days while she's on the east coast. Or on the west coast when she goes back there. Rachael Sage was wonderful, as usual. One of these days I will get around to seeing her play a whole show. As it is, I left after her second set. She played solo, 2 songs from her newest album ("Trouble" and "Unbeauty" at Sylvia Tosun's request) and 2 new songs, 1 called "Child" and 1 she didn't name. I think Sylvia Tosun has been mentioned here before. I really liked her voice and her music. Only got to hear her first 2 songs, one which Julie Flanders wrote the lyrics for. I think it was called "Deep, Dark Water" or something like that. Something about water. She said it had to do with Moses' feelings before he parted the Red Sea. And Amy Fairchild was also good. A strong singer and guitarist. I picked up her album, Mr. Heart, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. She sang backup vocals for a couple of people. Sorry this isn't much of a review, but I'm on my way out. I just wanted to encourage people to go out and see Terami. The whole evening was fun and full of good music, and I recommend seeing one of these Adoptaband.com showcases, which, happily, they plan to do more of.
