OMY is headed by Shinji Hosoe, the man who made the music of Playstation games Tekken and Ridge Racer. - -- Kjetil T. /XXX\ /XXX\ /XXX\ /XXX\ /XX\ /XX\ /XX\ /XX\ /// ///X\\\ ///X\\\ ///X\\\ ///X\\///\\\///\\\///\\\///\\\/// //// \\\X/// \\\X/// \\\X/// \XX/ \XX/ \XX/ \XX/ \XX/ //// \XXX/ \XXX/ \XXX/ http://folding.stanford.edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 04:25:17 -0500 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: Looking for a certain sound of music On Tue, Aug 06, 2002 at 10:03:33AM +0200, Kjetil Torgrim Homme wrote: > [Angel's Shadow]: > > > > I just heard a song I fell in love with by Incubus called "Aqueous > > Transmission," and it got me trying to sort through my music for > > anything that has a combination of traditional Japanese sound with > > modern singing styles and modern instrumentation. > > you may like Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO). it's more in the vein of > Tangerine Dream, though, chiefly instrumental. In an interesting connection, YMO included Ryuichi Sakamoto, who did the song Forbidden Colours that Angel's Shadow also liked. Though disliking David Sylvian's vocal on it because it reminds one of Spandau Ballet is like disliking a fine Cabernet because it reminds you of one of those wines that comes in a box :-) np: Sylvian/Fripp: Damage nr: Cornelius Cardew: Stockhausen Serves Imperialism - -- | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 11:31:54 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Rebecca Timmons in Toronto (8/12) Rebecca's playing at The Windsor Arms (18 Thomas St) on 8/12 at 9pm. - -j ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 08:44:13 -0700 (PDT) From: anna maria "stjärnell" Subject: christina's is that all there is? Hi all.. Does anyone have a copy of an artist called Christina(based in New York around 1980)'s version of Peggy Lee's Is that all there is? If so i would love to have it burned or taped. Can trade all sorts of stuff for it. Oh well..thought I'd ask since Siouxsie named it a favourite record in Mojo. She also picked Yma Sumac and other delightful oddities. Auditorium is the new live record, taken from shows in vancouver on may 24 and 25 2002. it's an hour long, and includes reworked models of the songs Plants, Ballad of Marie Sanders, Lying, Instructions, birdsong, Precious Heart, Tuk Hymn, With no Caring, A Peculiar Value, Bedlam, and many others. plus amusing banter! if you want to order it now, just print out the order page and cross off the title of another cd, writing auditorium in its place. prices are the same at this point, but there will be an increase in the fall so consider yourself warned. Silver is a new collection of songs written for the 25th anniversary of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. we did a quick and dirty recording of the new song cycle, and made 500 of a limited edition signed and numbered (and hand assembled) cd. it is 30 minutes long, and very sweet. to order it, just do the same as above for auditorium. Silver is priced at 12 dollars canadian, and 10 dollars US. There are only 100 left. other news: I'm off to whitehorse, yukon for the rest of the summer to work on new material. in the fall there will be a cross canada band tour in support of Auditorium, and hopefully another field study jaunt in germany. I'm also hoping to make it down to california sometime in the next 6 months, but til then you can see my husband's band p:ano touring from vancouver to san diego and back mid august. they're lovely, and i play quite a bit on their new record When it's dark and it's summer. happy trails everyone. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Aug 2002 20:31:06 -0400 From: Michael Curry Subject: Re: Veda Hille news Reformatted for your viewing pleasure....... >new records >posted by: veda >date: July 29, 2002 >they're not up on the order page yet, but Auditorium and Silver are both >available now to order. The latest update for The Reputation, Elizabeth Elmore's new band. I saw them perform last Thursday in New Haven, and they were really great (despite a less than stellar sound system). Elizabeth rocks! I highly recommend making it to one of the shows below if you can.... >From: "Elizabeth Elmore (the Reputation)" >Subject: the reputation update! >Date: Tue, 6 Aug 2002 19:34:27 -0500 > >Hey everyone!
