There's a French pop song that was a hit when I lived in Paris in 1983-84 and which I remember with nostalgia, but whose name and artist I'd never been able to discover. Ecto had no idea either. At various times I've hit the French search engines with whatever pieces of the lyrics I could remember but never turned up anything until this evening. The song is called "Adrian" and is by Buzy. Part of the reason why I never had any clear memory of the lyrics is that even the French can't figure them out. As one poster wrote (in French, < http://www.bide-et-musique.com/edit_song.html/840 >): >I've never understood what she keeps saying, >"Wahdooyunanwanandorian" or something like that... What language is >that? Is it a cry? Is it a groan? The debate is wide open... Nobody else was able to shed any light on the matter and requests for lyrics went unanswered (and are not to be found on the web, as far as I can tell--even on Buzy's own site at < http://www.buzy.net/ >). But you can decide for yourself via a short clip at < http://membres.lycos.fr/varietesrama/buzyadrian.rm >. The clip disappointed me--I remembered the song as slower, dreamier, better produced. But at least now I know what it is. (It was the devil to get the URL of that clip since the link is embedded in a Flash page at < http://perso.wanadoo.fr/varietesrama/buzy.html > --a good deal more Buzy info there, but still no lyrics.) Of course, getting a complete recording of the song today is next to impossible as the original album is out of print. I'm trying to see if a friend of mine in Paris can buy a used "Best Of" compilation off a website that won't ship out of France. We'll see.
