Ashley is a singer/songwriter who's music mixes strong African influences, particularly rythms and vocal arrangements, with folk and some jazz influences. Apart from this blending of styles and influences, the thing that stands out for me most is her vocal arrangements and harmonies, some of which are stunning. She's released three albums in all: two on Virgin in 1988 and 1992, both of which have been deleted for a while, and a third album, The Blessed Rain, which she recorded and released independently a couple of years ago. My personal favorate is still her first album, Hi, but all three are excellent in their own ways. There's a section on her in the ectophile's guide http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/guide.cgi, and lots more info on the web page www.ashleymaher.com (shameless plug). The web page also has links to some realaudio tracks from The Blessed Rain. I'd strongly recommend checking her out if you have the chance. - -Anthony Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 13:32:18 -0400 From: "Michael P. I actually probably really discovered Dilate and LE around the same time, and both had such a strong effect on how I expressed myself and how I wrote songs. It's amazing how much music can change how you look at the world or how you express your role in it. Personally, I also really love Living In Clip because of the range of material present in there. and while ani's personality can't help but show in her music, you get a taste of it even more in the between songs of concerts--that sweet shyness behind the boldness and aggression. - -Renee http://www.shadesofgraymusic.com http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/397/shades_of_gray_music.html _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 16:16:11 -0400 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: Happy's Site has been updated...
