From her earlier less produced, more folk sounding stuff my favorite album is definitely OUT OF RANGE. If you like PUDDLE DIVE or her first album ANI DIFRANCO then you'll probably like OUT OF RANGE. From her later stuff, I liked TO THE TEETH most, but in reality, I realize that I really don't listen to anything released after LIVING IN CLIP. So my opinion probably isn't worth much in terms of her latter stuff. So really I categorize ANI music in terms of music I like (earlier) versus music I don't like so much (later). Oh well. LIVING IN CLIP definitely captures her live energy (which, you know, makes sense as it is a live album). So if you like her live, I would certainly recommend it, as it's also a great way to get to know her earlier work, without committing to buying any full album. And as a side note DILATE is probably one of my all time favorite albums by her, but I think it is in a classification all by itself. It's painful and angry in a more intense personal way than anything she's released. It's pretty much sort of like her version of LITTLE EARTHQUAKES in that it's very self confessional and all about heartache and heartbreak. And as such, I don't see it fitting into her regular catalogue of work. It's definitely worth checking out, but she probably didn't play anything from it in concert (I think she's stated that she doesn't play anything from that album anymore because it's too difficult emotionally for her, but that was awhile ago, so enough time might have passed for her to be able to revisit that material). And that's my ANI thoughts. irvin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 23:43:39 -0700 (PDT) From: Ellen Rawson Subject: Re: Ani - --- irvin lin wrote: > > From her earlier less produced, more folk sounding > stuff my favorite album > is definitely OUT OF RANGE. Oh, yes. I really like *Out of Range*. I have a soft feeling in my heart for *Living in Clip* because I was at the Boulder show represented on it ("31 Flavors"). I think I miss those less-produced days... Ellen ===== "Literature stops in 1100.
