The folkie fringe of Ecto did very well at this year's Kerrville folk festival's New Folk Competition for emerging songwriters. Zoe Lewis and Annie Gallup were two of the six winners out of 30+ performers competing over Memorial Day weekend. This means that they will both be back for full sets during next year's festival. The other winners were Nels Andrews, Aengus Finnan, Annie Mosher, and Cheley Tacket (???) I went to Kerrville several years ago, and sat in the hot sun throughout the entire competition. The finalists were overwhelmingly Nashville and Texas-based and overwhelmingly male. I was happy to see that two performers I admire so much won this year. Annie Gallup was listed as being from Ann Arbor(?) I thought she was from New York. - --Valerie Richardson ________________________________________________ meredith wrote: > > Hi, > > Here's a name to put on the radar, if it's not already: Zoe Lewis. > > woj and I saw her at the Falcon Ridge Preview Tour the other night (hi, > Valerie :), which we had originally gone to because Trina Hamlin is part of > it (Eric Schwartz rounds out the bill). Her life experiences are pretty varied and fascinating. She moved back to Ann Arbor about a year ago. neal np: Falling Stars and Broken Hearts - Fred Eaglesmith ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 May 2002 16:27:40 +0000 From: ebgb@textmode.net Subject: spare All About Eve ticket Hi ectofolk. Due to a friend suddenly deciding to go on a holiday to South Africa, as you do, I have a spare ticket for 'All About Eve' at the Shepherds Bush Empire tomorrow. Should be a good show! Mail me if interested. Peace. G. - -- It is easier to denature plutonium than to denature the evil spirit of man. Unfortunately the band members couldn't get them to me in time for Projektfrest, but I will be giving them out tonight at the Rasputina show @ The Tin Angel. If any of you checked out their mp3 site you'll be familiar with the opening track 'Outbound' The other two songs on the disc are 'Body Double' and 'Ivory Shores'--the very best songs from their album! (IMHO) so be sure to see me to get one (I'll be wearing a pink top with a vintage poster for the Moulin Rouge on it--not difficult to miss). Hope to see some of you Philly Ectos there :-) ~Megan P.S.~If anyone's interested Trace Fury will be playing at the Khyber on 6/8. The cover is only $6, so come check them out! _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #151 **************************
