Hmm..I assumed the Vincent guy was Vincent Gallo who's rumored to be stepping out with Polly Jean..Gossip, gossip. Btw Craig check out Unwoman she might be right up your alley..She has an mp3.com site and a great new cd with a cover of Kate's Deeper understanding. Cabin Fever = Rasuptina = Melora Craig (sp? sorry.) solo. The promo I have has very little info, but it sounds to me like Cabin Fever was recorded at home, perhaps hence the name. It is new, and there isn't anything about it on their website, but it does appear on amazon, djangos, and other online disc stores. I haven't been to a physical store to see if it's available there yet. I will definitely be getting it, though, and thank Craig for the heads up about it. The "Lost and Found" ep is definitely worth ordering from their website. Bizarrely wonderful covers in that distinctive Rasputina fashion. It appears that Rasputina is Melora only these days. - --Neile - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- neile@drizzle.com / neile@sff.net......http://www.sff.net/people/neile The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ......... http://www.ectoguide.org ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 16:43:01 EDT From: OhtheDrears@aol.com Subject: eep, rasputina ok.. you know how sometimes bands revolve around one person, and the other members often change? that's how rasputina is. Melora Creager is the main person, and she sings and writes all of the songs. she is NOT solo, and if she were she would not be able to record or play almost all of her songs. as always, she has two other celloists backing her up and doing backup vocals. right now the other members are K Cowperthwaite and NaNa Cornant. before there was Julia.. Kent i believe, and Agnieshna (or something similar to that). Rasputina has always had three celloists, and a drummer. they have gone through a MILLION drummers, including chris vrenna from nine inch nails. cabin fevor is rasputina's new, full LP released on instinct records. there are 15 songs, and it is similar to the other albums, as well as having some distinct differences. there is at least two joke songs (some could go either way), one of which is a dialogue between pj harvey, bjvrk, "Matthew" and "Vincent." i have cabin fevor (i biked up hill for an hour and half to get it), and on the back of the booklet it says "Produced and Mixed by Melora Creager" and "Recorded at Dumbo Platz, Summer 1901" ok well that's obviously just silliness... i saw rasputina um.. a few months ago at nation (here in dc). that was an AMAZING show. one interesting fact: melora is married and has a two year old son. i can't think of anything else.. bye bye. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 21:12:12 -0600 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Myshkin house concert (Eugene!) One of my coolest discoveries at Folk Alliance was a brilliant collective called the Little Red Hens (http://www.littleredhenmusic.com). Everyone was interesting, and I had a great time just hanging out and listening to them all night. (Some subset of them tend to play a lot around NYC and New Orleans, so anyone there might want to check the web site for dates and locations). One of my favorites was Myshkin, who had a bit of a country flavor to her edgy folk sound. And a really powerful voice. When she passed through town and played at my neighborhood coffeeshop, she would step out from behind the mic and just belt it. We hope to have her come back and do a house concert here. But I noticed she was doing a house concert in Eugene this weekend and thought Steve or others (are there others there?) might be interested. (http://myshkinsrubywarblers.com).
