I have email Connie Dover to request info. There's a band called ClanTerra from Calgary (which is near here) that I saw very briefly at Folk Alliance last year. I dont know if its that you dont know where Nova Scotia is, or you dont know where Montana is. Probably Montana. I am always amazed that so mnay people have no idea where we are here. "Is that near Iowa?" is one I've heard often. I wonder if there's a list of top states that Americans can't locate. Anyway, its probably good that people dont know where we are. This way we can keep our population under a million. Its good for people to believe that we have the harshest scariest coldest winters, too. Yup. Sorry Neal. :) We are in fact right next to Canada. I could drive there in about 3 hours from here. Yeah yeah yeah. I knew that. I was just making a little joke. I probably still have the map you drew me to help me find Montana, though that was coming from the south and I'm pretty sure Canada isn't on it. (Jess drew me a map at Folk Alliance when I mistakenly imagined Montana to be a bit further east then it was, which is actually what prompted my comments the other day. It's worth noting that Jess' map had New Mexico in the wrong place.) Just got back from filling in for the last hour or so of a friend's radio show. It's a show where it's actually appropriate to play Kathleen Yearwood, so I played two tracks off Little Misery Birds. Nothing else particularly ecto-related made it on the show though. neal ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Apr 2002 11:40:06 -0800 From: "Phil" Subject: RE: Cowboy Junkies in the Bay Correction; it was Villa Montalvo, not Villa Saratoga, to which I was referring, in case any of you are interested in these concerts. ( it was that wine with the flying cow on the label that got me all confused) And in looking at their site, one can join the "Friend of Villa Montalvo" for lots less than the thou/year I quoted, with advance seating privileges, etc. Of course, you can send me a hundred bucks and *I'll* be your friend for life, not just one paltry year. Montalvo is also a really cool place to visit, I've staged some fun corporate events there. www.villamontalvo.org Chieftains, Shawn Colvin and the Waifs are among many of the acts lined up for the season. For those who've had a hard day and need to catch up on their sleep at a show, there's also Ottmar Liebert :P Phil Phil - -----Original Message----- From: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Phil Sent: Thursday, April 04, 2002 9:06 PM To: Jeff Wasilko; Jeffrey Burka Cc: ect Subject: RE: Cowboy Junkies in the Bay Many of the wineries in this area stage events, as their gardens and grounds are a great venue. The $50 ticket charge is pretty standard for these places, as they mostly cater to a rather upscale crowd. Places like Villa Saratoga, close to where I live have staged some pretty well-known names there and shake down the rich locals for annual subscriptions, to 'support' the music programs. A thousand bucks or something close, gets you season tickies, a free bottle of Chateau Fechez-La-Vache 1999, and preferred seating for the year. Especially with the summer concerts under the stars, the ambience and intimacy of the smaller venues makes for some inspired performances. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Apr 2002 21:42:41 -0800 From: "abaton" Subject: Nowottny on WHRB.org Singer/songwriter Marianne Nowottny and playwright Lauri Bortz will be appearing this evening, Friday April 5th at 2:30 AM EST on www.whrb.org the Harvard University radio station. Does anyone know what is on it, or more importantly, if what's on it isn't on her album "When we were small"? thanks, Karen ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #96 *************************
