Welcome to ECTO. Just so you know, in the latest SPIN magazine that had their SPIN TOP 40 BANDS THAT MATTER on the cover, FIONA was listed in the "where are they now...former SPIN TOP 40-ers." they mentioned that she is busy working on a new album and that she hopes to complete it by this fall. No release date though. There was only a three year gap between her first and her second, and while that seems long it certainly isn't all that long compared to KATE....who only released one album in the the 1990's and has no real prospect of putting anything out soon....yes yes, I've read those random interviews that people have posted. Basically they just say that KATE is working on some stuff, but who know when she'll be ready to release anything... Oh well. I'd rather have quality over quantity...and usually with KATE you get quality - though I really wasn't overly fond of RED SHOES. Didn't really stick to my ribs... Anyway the person that I have been wondering about is LISA GERMANO. I think she retired from music, but I keep on hearing through the grapevine that she is playing here and there. What's up with that? Anyone has news on the horizon of new music from her? SLIDE came out in '98. And I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but there's a new THROWING MUSES album in the can! whoo hoo!!! it even has TANYA doing backup vocals... Estimated release date of JAN 2003. What a wait. Oh well.... Now if only they could get LESLIE back... Lindha Svantesson "Far from alone" Brilliant jazz vocalist twists and turns her voice in own compositions. Lindi "Taste of forbidden Fruit" Astonishing debut from girl with piano and great voice. Sounds like a lot of other people but with her own touches. Anna Maria Yahoo! Just in case there's anybody else here who experiences a short blast of blinding rage whenever Fiona Apple is referred to as simply "Fiona", I'll mention that there are rumors that the original one-name Fiona (Flanagan), absent since 1992's _Squeeze_ but still in my opinion one of the greatest rock singers ever, is working on new music for a new album, supposedly to be released by this company (http://www.coallierentertainment.com/fiona_page.htm). glenn ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Mar 2002 11:28:13 -0800 From: irvin lin Subject: Re: FIONA, KATE, LISA and TM On 3/31/02 9:21 AM, "glenn mcdonald" wrote: >> FIONA was listed in the "where are they now... > > Just in case there's anybody else here who experiences a short blast of > blinding rage whenever Fiona Apple is referred to as simply "Fiona", > I'll mention that there are rumors that the original one-name Fiona > (Flanagan), absent since 1992's _Squeeze_ but still in my opinion one of > the greatest rock singers ever, is working on new music for a new album, > supposedly to be released by this company > (http://www.coallierentertainment.com/fiona_page.htm). Apologizes. I rarely refer to FIONA APPLE as just FIONA (I know a lot of people who do especially that when lumping her in with other artists. Usually they are the people who say a string of first names like SARAH, TORI, FIONA...etc, in reference to SARAH MCLACHLAN, TORI AMOS and FIONA APPLE even though I am sure there are tons of other artist whose names are also SARAH, TORI and FIONA...). Actually now that I think about it, I rarely refer to FIONA APPLE all that much at all. Though I liked FIONA APPLE's first album I found FIONA APPLE's second not as much to my liking. Too uptight and angry. And I usually like angry. But not in the same way that FIONA APPLE did it. I mean I like PJ HARVEY's first two album best. Talk about angry. But FIONA APPLE's WHEN THE PAWN... Album? I dunno. It just didn't stick in my head. I'll probably track down FIONA APPLE's third one though, when it comes out. I like FIONA APPLE enough to do that. Anyway I only referred to FIONA APPLE as FIONA because it was referenced in the earlier email, and I was lazy. Plus how INCREDIBLY annoying is it for someone to write the full name FIONA APPLE everytime you have to refer to FIONA APPLE? I mean, guess if I was in JOURNALIST mode I would have referred to her as APPLE, but I rarely go into JOURNALIST mode nowadays. You knew who I was talking about so I feel completely justified. But from now on I will refer to her as FIONA APPLE in the complete just so you won't get upset. Oh fast scan on the internet, and rumor has it that FIONA APPLE will be releasing something NOVEMBER 2002. This is just tentative and a bit of a rumor but it's all I could find. That and more info/rumors can be found at http://www.fionahaswings.com/ :) Irvin ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #91 *************************
