I think I saw her do two very brief sets, and I liked the second one better. So I think she was growing on me. But at Folk Alliance, where there are so many performers, it's hard for someone to stand out. I've seen people at Folk Alliances in the past who I couldn't even remember. Then I saw them somewhere else and was really struck by them. So I don't like to discount someone just because they didn't wow me at Folk Alliance I always feel bad too, cause I thought Jenn was really nice. I always want to be more enthusiastic about music by nice people. neal np: feels like home - donna frost At 12:14 AM -0700 3/21/02, Jessica Byers wrote: >You didnt mention anything about Jenn Adams. Many of you have responded to my post regarding Happy's CDs, with locations, new ideas, exhortations and offers of help. Thank you all, I have forwarded many of these great ideas, such as the record conventions, music store afficionados and house concert giveaways, etc, directly to Happy, to give her an idea of the breadth of creativity this group is capable of on her behalf. Your invaluable input will undoubtedly help define the ultimate paths this project will take. I'll reply personally to all respondents over the coming weekend ( this is my work account, so I must at least maintain the pretense of corporate productivity), with some updates as I get them from Happy. Meanwhile, thanks so much to all of you who are offering to help. I'm heartened by all these responses and offers of help, and very happy to be part of such a generous and thoughtful group. let's keep those cards and letters rolling in, folks. I actually live an hour south in Salem, but make it to multiple areas around here as often as I can. I have not been especially pleased with the CD shops in Portland. Most of them seem to have few surprises if any, and they are organized oddly (I can not stand this new trend of mixing the used CDs in with the New in the same artist section. That's great if you are looking for something specific..but for those of us who browse, it's a nightmare.) There are a few exceptions. I think that Django's music is pretty great. However, if you are really in the market for soem good used CD shops, you are going to have to travel a bit. Jump on the I-5 and go south..past Salem (although, there is a great used CD shop here called Ranch Records that is a little overpriced, but has an interesting selection.) Keep going and visit Eugene Oregon.. the hippie capital of the world. It's also the home to U of O, and some of the best used CD buying I have ever seen. Strange selections, great prices.. it's really top knotch. Granted, I'm still trying to find my way around as well..but my experience has proved that the above is true. I wouldn't have guessed we had it so good here. So what are your favorite record stores in Eugene? I really liked the Record Garden, but they moved their main store to Springfield, and the Record Garden Annex that they kept in Eugene just isn't the same. Still, they have pretty remarkable variety, lower-than-average prices, and a nice policy that anything they have to special-order gets a $1 discount. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Mar 2002 21:00:17 +0000 From: jjhanson@att.net Subject: Nerissa and Katryna The girls of the Nields have a new solo album out in stores--Love and China. This is an exciting time for us as the release of NAQOYQATSI will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the premiere of KOYAANISQATSI. Know that the monetary support that you provided allowed the Institute to remain in position to allow it to be able to look eye to eye with our counterparts at MGM and be able to work out a reasonable and fair resolution of the issues between our respective organizations. We hope that in the next couple of months, we will be able to upgrade our website and integrate information about NAQOYQATSI and be more interactive with our fans around the world.
