I had to make do with that when on the road, since I somehow managed, each Tuesday night, to be either busy or in a city without UPN. I'll need to hit the four I missed in reruns. I was just devastated at the end of "Hell's Bells". I don't know if or why they're trying to get every character to be as miserable as possible, but they have only six episodes to the season left if they wanna turn things around, and the trailer for next week looks even more depressing. The Riley thing was annoying enough since she did meet him at the helicopter the previous season, and he never looked down to see her there, and then he shows up with "Mrs. Perfect" having taken a year to recover from the Buffy thing. Ugh. Maybe I'll watch Babylon 5 with Delenn and Sheridan again for a dose of "happy couple actually gets married." I've never ordered from them before -- based on my fellow American ectophiles' experience, does the regular mail option *really* take 3-6 weeks?? I've lamed on ordering MMOH's new album this long, I guess I can wait for it a little while longer ... but I was just curious what the real world has been like. It says something about a season when the villains >are mainly comic relief... It's funny, everyone seems to have reacted to "Hell's Bells" the same way. And yet it had some of the best fall-down-funny moments of the entire season, if not the series. ("That's because this dress is radioactive!") My theory is that this week will be one of those alternate-reality things that makes Buffy realize her life really could be a lot worse. And that will be a turning point for her. Or at least I hope so -- like you said, the season is running down, and I'd hate for it to end on the same note it's been playing so far. That would just be too depressing to go into summer with. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ======================================= (: New England Patriots - Super Bowl XXXVI CHAMPIONS :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 11:19:49 -0800 (PST) From: kitty kat Subject: Re: BtVS plea (way OT there) I've actually given up on recording this season, after faithfully recording the first 5 this fall on fX. I find it uneven, frequently characters act in a way that seems contrary to their nature, and Hell's Bells was just too damn depressing. Crying during "The Body" was cathartic. Crying during "Hell's Bells" was just painful and draining. I'm still watching it, and still care, but I don't see myself wanting to watch any of these episodes again. I don't know if she's been mentioned on ecto; I think I heard about her from a friend. Anyway, she's more or less in the ecto vein; more info at . I arrived about an hour early and without dinner, so I went out looking for a place to get food. Pete's Candy Store is blocks away from anywhere, so I had to walk about ten minutes to find eateries. However, I found this wonderful Polish restaurant at the intersection of Bedford and Manhattan Avenues in Greenpoint. I had a huge bowl of borscht and a heaping "Polish platter" for the absurd price (total, including tax) of $6.75. (Not including the bottle of beer I ran out and bought at the Polish grocery next door--the place has no liquor license.) Rachel Loshak was basically just OK. She plays bass and Jason Crigler is on electric guitar; there was also a drummer. The sound is ethereal, but Rachel's voice is a bit on the thin side and could use some development. I didn't find the songwriting particularly memorable. Pete's Candy Store is a pretty small venue; I'd never been there before. During Rachel's set, I saw Chris Cunningham and Michelle Kinney--they were on for the next gig, so I stayed for that. The performers went by the name "Cunningham, Crigler & Hill"--Chris Cunningham and Tim Hill on acoustic guitar, Jason Crigler on electric guitar, with guests Michelle Kinney on cello and Monica Ann Crigler doing backing vocals on a few songs. Tim Hill did most of the vocals, and also made occasional didgeridoo sounds (vocally). There was some interesting stuff, but overall it was too folky for my taste. However, there is some news: Chris Cunningham and Michelle Kinney are moving to Minneapolis. Chris got a position there teaching film scoring and is looking forward to it (he apparently doesn't fear the winters). Michelle assured me that they'll be back from time to time and that it won't be the last of her with the Chanting House. Also I tied up a loose end: It wasn't Linford Detweiler I saw the other night at Sloan Wainwright's CD release party. Glad to get that one off my mind... ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #69 *************************
