Wouldn't it be better to talk to Happy directly regarding all of this instead of stirring up a bunch of ill-fated talk amongst us? She's already said in her messages that she's going to willfully quit live performances, at least for an undetermined period of time. ~Chaps ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 17:19:39 +0000 (GMT) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Valerie=20Nozick?= Subject: Re: Happy's career I know what I'm going to say will be controversial, but hear me out. I love happy's music. I wish it were more popular. But I've refrained so far from doing a lot to publicize it, besides word of mouth. Why? Because I've never gotten the feeling that Happy is willing to work hard at her music career. In the time I've been a fan of her music, she has probably played less than 10 concerts (and that's over a period of 10 years). I could do all the work I wanted, but unless Happy puts the effort in at the grass roots level, my effort is wasted. It's very rare in the music business for an artist to become big without playing concerts. And those times it happens are because some producer manufactured an artificial band. Playing live is critical to a musician's career. Happy has never shown the willingness to pack herself into a van and go on the road. I know a few years ago she talked about it, but her technical requirements were too grandiose to make it affordable. She needs to go on the road with a show that _is_ affordable - that's how you build up a fan base and get the attention of the big record companies (without selling your soul). Happy has all the components necessary to be a big success, except the drive. You can be beautiful and talented, but you won't get anywhere unless you also have the ambition. Sadly, I suspect Happy is fated to be the perfect example of this truth. ==> Valerie --- Mark Chapman wrote: > > Subject: Happy's career > > Hey all, > > I've just been reading through the Many Worlds > > archives at Auntie Social... And Happy has shown that she can be great live with a minimal setup, such as at EctoFest. Of course, I'd love to see her with a performance such as the Many Worlds tour (especially if the visuals actually worked), but she's strong enough to carry a performance with simpler support, especially once her hand completely heals. (I've often wondered how she supports herself, since the income from the music can't be that great. And yes, I realize that the answer may be "It's none of your business.") - -- | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems | | http://www.metatronpress.com/nj/smwb.html | | Latest CDs: Collaborations/ All Souls http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 22:04:22 +0200 From: =?Windows-1252?Q?Taina_Viitam=E4ki?= Subject: RE: All things Pooka (And supernova too) > I recently found Pooka's page only to learn that they have a new > self-released CD (and a bunch of cd singles I can't find anywhere). Hi, Chuck Jones, the legendary animator who gave the world Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner and Daffy Duck, among so many others passed away yesterday, at the age of 89. Happy is a huge Looney Tunes fan (as am I), so this is relevant news. The world has truly lost a legend. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ======================================= (: New England Patriots - Super Bowl XXXVI CHAMPIONS :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 19:30:16 -0800 From: "Troy J. My friend (thanks to Clary) Megan Slankard will be Showcase Artist at NEMO Boston! Other than the fact that she is super-talented and deserves a ton of exposure, I sent her the NEMO Application (so it really has nothing to do with her talent, it's all ME ME ME). So any of y'all in the Boston area that can make it, go support this great kid! The schedule isn't up yet for NEMO, but I'm sure it's on the way. http://www.MeganSlankard.com http://www.nemoboston.com a happy troy ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V8 #57 *************************
