You can find it at the NPR site under today's date and the title "All Wound Up." Fink and Marxer and Brave Combo are up for a grammy for the album _All Wound Up_. I bought the CD just before Christmas, listened to it once or twice, and haven't gotten back to it since (well, just now I put it on). I thought the album lacking in something- Je n'sais quoi. I was, though, quite impressed by Marcy Marxer's western swing guitar playing. Very nice. Local boys Brave Combo provide most of the rhythm tracks to the songs. And one of our local bluegrassers (Bonnie Norris)adds her fiddle. On further listening it does have it's charms. "I Will Never Clean Up My Room," is good. Marcy has a cute voice. And "Chopsticks" conjures the ghost of the Fireballs (with horns). I was spoiled in the eighties by listening to _Stay Awake_ the tribute to Walt Disney songs. The album has Ken Nordine, Sun Ra and band, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, and other good musicians covering some well-known and obscure Disney tunes. It sort of raised the standard for children's tunes. Now I think all children's records should have Tom Waits doing his beatnik thing. Bye, Lyle n.r. _Creative Music Production, Joe Meek's Bold Techniques_. I've heard so much good stuff about Colleen Sexton, of course I jumped at the chance. Martin's little sister has been making quite a name for herself lately. She was part of the _Respond_ compilation of Boston area folk musicians, has been nominated for a Boston Music Award, and recently put out a great CD simply called _Colleen Sexton Live_, which was itself recorded at a house concert. The reviews (rightly) rave about her strong, rich voice and jazzy, bluesy arrangements. She's guaranteed to put on one of the best shows we've had here. For more info on Colleen, including sound samples see http://www.colleensexton.com. As usual, the suggested donation is $10. We'll have munchies to much on, drinks to drink, and a good time will be had by all. Hope to see a bunch of you here! ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ======================================= (: New England Patriots - Super Bowl XXXVI CHAMPIONS :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Feb 2002 22:51:14 -0500 From: Jeffrey Burka Subject: Re: Percy Howard/HR connection via Jill Tracy? troy sez: > so nice of our diety to not bother telling us. sheez, might have to > demote her to demi-deity for a few hours maybe she thought we would just have the sense to pay attention to www. auntisocialmusic.com where she mentions the album and has a link to the page for it on percyhoward.com... there's also a cool february Many Worlds article that's worth a read.
