She was dropped from Reprise a year or so ago. She released the album "Tender Hooks" on her own... I have a copy and it's pretty good...really really different from the first one, though. Much more electronic. It doesn't sell in stores, you have to get a copy from her, I think... Or try to find the downloads somewhere. I'm not sure what she's been up to recently, though... she and Emm were touring w/ Bowie and then she played a few shows and then kind of disappeared... her website hasn't been updated in a very long time. www.hollypalmersinger.com Jess www.jessicaweiser.com | www.aftersilence.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2002 23:23:53 +1000 From: "heidi maier" Subject: new peter gabriel work. i thought that folks might be interested to know that peter gabriel is working on the score for phil noyce's upcoming film, "the rabbit-proof fence." it is an australian film [noyce himself is from here] & is based on doris pilkington's biographical book, "follow the rabbit-proof fence." the film itself is released here on february 21st & in the united states on june 21st. you can read about it at the website: www.rabbitprooffence.com.au and also here, in the age newspaper: http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/2001/12/06/FFXSI6EZTUC.html according to today's courier mail newspaper, peter gabriel is in "the final stages of production" on his score for the film. heidi. - ------ "i want so much to write well, though i know i don't ... but during and at the end of my life, i will adore those who have." -- *dorothy parker* * heidi maier - bruised@shiver.org * ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Feb 2002 17:51:20 -0500 From: Jason Gordon Subject: what to do for 3 weeks in sydney and melbourne? I don't know record stores in Manly, but ... RedEye Records has a couple of locations in the city centre that have lots upon lots of nifty music items, collectibles, etc. The Tower and Virgin Records in the city centre both have very good selections. They both often have '2 for $50' sales, which come out to two CDs for US$12.50 or so. Make sure you browse their AU$9.99 racks as well. For tourist things, I have to recommend going to Taronga Zoo, and walking across the Harbour Bridge. Make sure you start the bridge walk on the northern side, instead of the southern side which is most common. Walking from the north gives you a fantastic view of the Opera House and surrounding Harbour. Walking from the south gives you a view of the bridge and some of the Harbour, you have to keep on turning around to see the good stuff. The aquarium in Darling Harbour is one of the best in the world. If you do it on a weekend, you can wrap that into a trip to the Sydney Fish Markets. Well, if you're vegetarian, skip the fish markets. :) But if not, go there and get the freshest calamari you'll ever have. It beats anything I've ever had in my current home (San Francisco). Darling Harbour is also home to the Chinese Friendship Gardens. That is a nice way to spend a tranquil afternoon wandering around wonderfully-kept gardens. And if you're into Thai food, there's a restaurant overlooking Darling Harbour (I can't remember the name!) very close. The Rocks is a nice place to spend a Sunday shopping. Lots of little stores there. I think you're going to miss him, but if you happen to see that the Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly is doing a show while you're in Sydney, give him a go. His songwriting reminds me a lot of Bob Dylan (same sort of songs that just perfectly capture a story), but his voice is better. Paul's current album, _... nothing but a dream_, will be released in the US on 19 Feb 2002. There's more, but if I keep on typing, I'll end up talking myself into moving back. Which I might do anyway. :) Oh, yes, one other thing. Make sure that you try the Australian cookie called TimTams. If you like chocolate, anyway. Every time I go back to Australia, I buy several packages and bring them home with me. My co-workers all adore them. :) /nm {who is terribly missing Sydney, even though she only lived there for a few months} ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Feb 2002 16:59:42 -0800 From: cyo@landoftheblind.com Subject: Re:megan's worries on Lovecraft film hey Megan, don't let it (the soundtrack of Lovecrafts novel) scare you, so far, everything i have heard and seen is true to Lovecraft's art and vision. But i am not an expert on comic books (never read em as a kid or adult) or on Lovecraft either, so you should check it out yourself. The bass player/cellist I am now working with in the new BLIND is an expert though, a comic book expert and a Lovecraft person and he is very excited about the project, in fact, he is pushing me to get mo' busy on it and giving me music almost every week. You can find out more at the film site. I myself got the soundtrack job of music supervisor because the director has seen me perform for years, one of those folks that start as a fan and become a friend over time. He is full of pure admiration for Lovecraft, so I doubt he would do anything "anti-Lovecraft" or hokey...Some of the other Ecto folk out here and in Portland are involved also, Michael Pierce will do voice over one of the lead characters. These are all smart folks that don't do anything stupid. I am guessing it shall be damn great, despite a limited budget due to the folks involved. They are done filming, it is all illustration, as far as I know, not animation. The artist of the comic book is Jason Thompson, his artwork/comic book version (great art) is available thru Mock Man Press in SF, www.sonic.net/~jason/ the film web site is; http://www.petting-zoo.org/Dreamquest_Trailer.html Director's quote "Unfortunately, unless I can find an AVI-to-MPG converter, I'm afraid that it's going to be 27 MB for a little while, AND only playable on machines that can play AVI files (er, Windows boxes)." if anyone can help him on this, please contact him. Plus I plan to do a great soundtrack for the work, available on my site when finished. Hope that sets your mind at rest. I was not sure myself, if it might be a B movie or even lower, but the trailer I just got is very very pro and now I am very excited again about it. peace, cyoakha grace PS thanks for ordering Ordinary Magic, there are two songs on that album going into the Lovecraft movie from that album, Monster (closing credits) and Trust (opening credits) Hoe you enjoy.
