After over six years, (me, wailing "Where you BEEN?" as they said their hellos) they've finally made it back here, and they're as great as ever. Granted, it probably wasn't the best gig I've seen them do, but lack of familiarity with the new material played a big part in that, plus the fact that I'm too short to get to the gig just before it starts (why do all the tall people get there early?) and the sightlines were a little....well, impossible. Still, the girls exuded warmth and humour, and it was just wonderful to hear them and occasionally, when the crowd ahead of me shifted their weight to their other feet, get a glimpse of them. Apart from the new stuff, there were songs I'd have liked to have heard but didn't (I thought Swamp Ophelia got short shrift) but it was great to hear them do "Faye Tucker" with such energy and commitment, and to finally hear Amy do "Johnny Rotten". Hurrah! They say they'll be back twice this year, and I can't wait. The gig had even more special meaning for me, as my partner my stepdaughters came along, and it was lovely having them there. If anyone else (Ellen?) was there, could you tell me the name of the opening act? The Shepherds Bush people had told me "Bina", but it sounded like "Dina" to me. Whatever - - - I thought she was really interesting, with a raw, Patty Griffin-type voice, and I'd really like to know more about her. Any info would be gladly received. BTW -- there's a virus going around via the dar williams info list, so watch out -- it's a worm and seems to come from all directions. I think it started with someone's supposed party pictures attached. Whatever -- beware. adam k. No, no. I'm about 5' 10", and I was feeling short after a really tall guy suddenly stepped on my foot and stood in front of me towards the end. I meant to get there earlier, but because of work hassles, I didn't get there till after 7 PM. *sigh* They were sold out of the tour t-shirts by then and only had the "girlie" shirts. :) Where were you? We were near the bar (on the floor) on the left hand side. We gradually moved a little closer. I was wearing my IG long-sleeved black shirt with the fish and snowflake on it. > > If anyone else (Ellen?) was there, could you tell me > the > name of the opening act? Pina. What did you think of her? I personally think the sound guy needed to be shot -- the sound for her bit was awful. Of course, it didn't help that all the people in the crowd around me were still holding LOUD, private conversations. Go to the pub, man! I wanna hear the music. I picked up the flier with other gigs she's doing; without a full band, I think she's more appropriate for a smaller club. She has a single out in March and the album's out in April. Web: http://realworldrecords.com/pina She's billed as "rock's newest confessional singer." Unfortunately, due to the noise around me and the cruddy sound, I had a difficult time understanding the lyrics. She's opening for IG in Glasgow tomorrow. Ellen, seeing Melissa Etheridge in London on Sat. -- spending far too much money on music! Oh, I did get a copy of last night's IG setlist! :) ===== "Literature stops in 1100. Wow, that's pretty exciting--don't have any specifics to help you though. Her manager is val@valdenn.com--is that who you asked? They're sometimes a little slow to respond. Eliza is playing at my house March 24th here in Albuquerque, NM--and we're already completely booked. First time that has happened this far in advance. Jeff Hanson n.p. Right now christinefellows.com is mainly up for press people to look at, so hopefully that won't mess too many people up. This also reminded me that I should note on the discography page that the album isn't yet available for order. When I find out what the pre-order date is going to be, I'll let everybody know and update the site. Thanks. :) >Christine Fellows is great live, too, if you can catch her on this tour >(meaning you're lucky enough to live in Canada). She's hoping to make it south of the border sometime.
