Finally, news from the Patty list about a new album. As I'm sure you all know (but for the benefit of those who don't) this incredible artist, after releasing a couple of stunning albums ("Living With Ghosts" and "Flaming Red") was then due to follow these up with "Silver Bell" over a year ago, but her label, Interscope, decided that the result was not radio friendly enough and refused to release it. Patty, understandably, left the label shortly after, and has now signed to ATO Records. They will release her next album,1000 Kisses, on April 9, 2002, and she will tour "extensively" -- hopefully that means a UK visit, as well. Meanwhile, news from Eliza Gilkyson's site is that she's also working on a new album, also to be released in April. It's perfect for blocking out the world, and to completely immerse yourself in whatever book you're reading. You really can't pay attention to it--it would be like trying to figure out how a hologram works, thereby losing the 'magic'. On a related note, a package that was sent to me (by someone else in Illinois) was postmarked 12/13/01 and arrived at my office in northern Virginia on 1/12/02. So who knows what you can expect from our beloved postal service these days. My thanks to Phil for sending me one of the naked LHD discs immediately after I wrote the first somewhat recent note about not getting it yet. ~Chaps ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 08:47:22 EST From: Jessweiser24@aol.com Subject: Re: Patty Griffin -- at last! It's: Rain Chief Stolen Car (Springsteen) Makin Pies Be Careful Long Road Nobody's Cryin Tomorrow Night Mil Besos (Ema. Elena Valdelamar) Reprise. Produced by Patty and Doug Lancio, mastered by George Marino (only know that cause he might master my album and his assistant and I had a conversation about Patty ;) )... someone who heard it said if you're a fan of "Living with Ghosts" you'll be really pleased when you hear this album. Very sparse and haunting, apparently... I can't wait! I've heard about 1/2 the album songs live and they're great... www.jessicaweiser.com | www.aftersilence.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 09:08:44 -0500 From: "Jeffrey C. Burka" Subject: a little more splashdown There's been some talk recently about Splashdown and their unreleased _Blueshift_ album, which may or may not be available via mp3 at this point (the site from which I downloaded my set of files seems to be down. neile? is there a live site anywhere that you know of?) Anyway, for folks wanting to add to their Splashdown collection, you might want to take a look at their page on their original home label's site: http://cvb.drawbridge.com/splashdown/index.html There's a smallish collection of demos, live tracks, and so forth available for download. I would particularly point you to the song "Asia at Odd Hours" which I feel is actually one of their best songs. Way too tasty. http://cvb.drawbridge.com/splashdown/sounds/Splashdown-AsiaAtOddHours.mp3 jeff n.p. _The Storm_, Karnataka ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 12:40:50 -0800 From: Phil Hudson Subject: Dar Williams on NP Radio today; Tape available I heard Dar visiting and playing on NPR's Democracy Now this morning; I missed a lot of her airtime as I was in and out of the car (Gluing the putti back on the fountain, just kidding :), but what I heard was very lovely. You can get a tape of the show by calling 800 735 0230 and referencing Democ. Now; this was the SF Bay area affiliate stations broadcasting, and the airtime was 10am -ish, 1/25/02. I'm not sure if there's a charge for the tape, but it probably won't be much. Well worth it, from what I heard.
