Thanks to Jerene for responding for me; it has been a very watery month & more for me, the downstairs of the house flooded out over the holidays and New year ( Well, it IS in a rainforest!), and my car decided it wanted an ornamental fountain instead of a radiator. All it needed was a few putti and a couple of coins to complete the effect. I'm beginning to wonder if this is the drowning of the Age of Aquarius. So recent existence has been rather soggy, and in some ironic counterpoint to the torrential flooding, the CD output slowed to, well, a trickle ( groan) I managed to send out some copies, and even recently sent out some unboxed CDs and will follow up with the cover art and case when I get them back in stock, figuring you'd rather have the basic Happy CD than none at all OK, the LHD's: Lisa, I did send you a copy on 12/11 'cos I remember your address in KS and your recent name change. Congratulations by the way on your marriage. I will get you another copy very soon. There are still about 30 or so people who have not gotten theirs yet, and I am abjectly apologetic and greatly embarrassed by my serial tardiness. Maybe I should prioritize the rest by everyone's age, so I can make sure LHDs reach them before the Grim Reaper does. Nearly everyone overseas has been sent theirs, except Yngve & friends in Norway, Rolf in Germany and Karen Hester and friends in hobbit land, NZ, for which I apologize; I really wanted to take care of all the international ones as they take longer to get there ( Actually that's a pretty funny statement in retrospect!). My only real excuse is that Happy and I initially thought we would be making about 40-50 cds tops, "Hey, not a problem, how long could it take; how hard could it be?" I found out in a very exact and quantifiable way. We're up over 150 names right now, and have had to send out quite a few twice due to the postal problems around 9/11; many people never got theirs. Additionally we sent multiple copies to some folks for further distribution, or generous donors who sent Happy large donations. I forgot my own personal rule, learned from previous attempts at a large home improvement project: If I ever say the words " how hard could it be?" I must immediately reach for the yellow pages and enlist the paid services of a professional. If I ever need to extract my cat's head from the garbage disposal unit in the sink I will call someone trained in that arcane art, and not whip out the chainsaw and fire it up. ( oops, sorry Fluffy!) So I've learned a lot about CD replication and jacket design and production, mostly from the myriad mistakes I made. What I really took a long time to learn is that there is a lot of people on this list from whom I should have asked for help months ago :) A bad case of Multimedia Culpa. Last year was one of the strangest in my life and brought me virtually everything except a plague of locusts, and I'm planning on this year being better, or I shall simply take up living quarters under the bed... ( Course, last year I got to meet HR and do sound for her at EFW, in addition to meeting all the Ectos who came out, so there were some brightly shining moments) The good news: Jeff Wasilko is once again burning what I think will be the final batch, as the orders have tapered off to a trickle, although I did get another new request today. Fog has graciously offered his help again ( He printed jackets, assembled and sent out a bunch before), and I am going to check in with him and send him some names if he still has the time available. I am determined to get everyone taken care of as soon as possible ( again). If you email me to let me know you're still waiting, PLEASE don't think you're pestering, ( you folks are all way too nice which is one of the things I love most about this list), but do include your address and full name, as I'm getting inquiries from folks whose names were never forwarded to me, so I wasn't ever aware of them. Now the Credits: Thanks to all of you for your patience, and *huge* thanks to both Jeff Wasilko and Mike 'Fog' Weis: many of you lovely, patient Ectos have posted thanks to me for what I've done ( which is mostly keep you all waiting :), whereas Jeff and Mike have both worked extremely hard, Jeff at donating and burning the majority of the CDs you've received, and Mike, who has printed out a large number of Jackets and J cards, assembled many of the units AND shipped them off to you, in addition to printing up a bunch of stuff for me when I was suffering from multiple printer burnouts. Fog also donated his own materials: photo paper, bubble packs and postage. ( LHD Trivia: you can tell the covers Fog printed, as the words "Left Hand Demo" are missing from the front cover; somehow, in converting them from the software package I was using to JPeg format, they dropped off mysteriously). Also, Vickie Mapes donated and shipped me 100 Jewel cases for the cause, Lyle Howard sent me a check to help with postage and expenses. I think I got everyone, please let me know if I missed you. And special thanks to Happy, for asking me to do this project, which was a real honor for me, and has resulted in some delightful and hilarious exchanges of emails between us, and our resultant friendship, which for me is priceless. I'm now trying to get her sold on merchandising the "Mother C" line of dietary supplements; they'll be easier to produce and mail. Start sending in your donations now folks :) Thanks and love to you all Phil ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2002 16:09:59 +1100 From: Andrew Fries Subject: my own little plastic castle The other day I read how our collective attention span is shrinking; how the TV drama writers used to have a rule of thumb that gave them around 15 minutes to establish the "hook" for their story, but that has now shrunk to around 5 minutes. How the length of commercials decreases from around 60 seconds to sometimes as little as 10 seconds. How even the AFL (Australian Football League) is trialing shorter quarters in games, down from 20 minutes to 17, because their market research showed crowds are getting restless. Used to instant replay, they want the action NOW! My order from Projekt arrived: I got the back catalog of Area records (the band Lynn Cannfield sung in before Moon x 7) and "Flux" - the one Love Spirals Downwards CD I missed until now. The last item was Alio Die & Amelia Cuni, "Apsaras". Amelia specialises in a traditional Indian singing style called "dhrupad", while Alio Die provides electronic background to her voice. Sounds interesting? Well, I thought it did, and I ordered the disk. So, I put it on, but after maybe 10 minutes in I found I had to turn it off. I was actually enjoying it, yet I couldn't take it any more! I found myself hoping desperately for a conclusion, a closure, a climax. Bring on some big sounds. Give me some percussion. Move on to the next piece. In fact, do anything but stop this aimless drifting!!! Now, "aimless drifting" is, of course, the whole point of this music, and I knew it perfectly well. It shocked me to realise my problem was simply lack of patience. So not like me! You know, I like to think I'm relatively immune to the barrage of information, advertising and bullshit we're exposed to every day. But perhaps I'm just fooling myself. One thing is obvious: if you don't use it, you lose it - concentration has to be exercised as much as any muscle. I'm now shutting down my computer, closing the blinds, and putting this CD on. And I am going to listen to it from the beginning until the end if it kills me! - ---------------------------------------------------------------- "All I know is that I'm being sued for unfair business practices by Microsoft.
