Let's see... my first album purchase was Blue Oyster Cult's _Fire of Unknown Origin_, after I saw them perform on (of all places) The Merv Griffin Show. I don't recall my first 45, though I'm sure it was something embarassing. And my first CD... The Police _Ghost in the Machine_, which I already owned on vinyl. Hi, Mike confessed: > Let's see... my first album purchase was Blue Oyster Cult's >_Fire of Unknown Origin_, after I saw them perform on (of all >places) The Merv Griffin Show. Wow. Now *that* is something I wish I'd seen. (Though for all I know I did see it, and it just didn't register with me at the time. Merv Griffin was often on in the house during my childhood.) > I don't recall my first 45, though I'm sure it was something >embarassing. I'm sure. Mine was, The White Album. I can still remember holding it close up to my face to get the plastic wrap off, and....finding the pictures inside. I was 9 or 10. Had to wash a few dishes and mow the lawn a number of times for that one...and, someone will probably remember what this was...but there supposedly was a limited number of White Albums that had some hidden photo on the cover or something....I remember mine was just white and it didn't come off or have anything under it....or, was that one of those rumours that went around??? I know John & Yoko had that naked cover that got quickly recalled, but, the White Album was before that...so, maybe there was a limited edition White Album. I can still see opening it up, like it was yesterday. Number 9 number 9 number 9 LOL! Cheers and Happy New Year! Darned if I can remember exactly what my first album purchase was. I suspect that due to certain mind expanding experiences in the late '60s and early '70s, my poor brains synapses didn't quite get put back together in the right order. My memory is a tad scrambled. I heard Dylan's Freewheelin' on the last day of high school in my Junior English class (thank you Miss Vona), spring of 1964. We didn't have a record player so I spent the summer mowing lawns and bought a small stereo in the $30-$40 dollar range. I had intended Freewheelin' to be my first purchase. I think I got side tracked by Barbara Streisand's People release that September. It was all over the radio. I do remember the three albums that I played while doing homework my senior year were: People, Freewheelin', and the Original Off-Broadway Cast album of The Fantastiks. My first concert was Bob Dylan in Miami, Fla. March 3 of 1966. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2002 00:14:44 EST From: RocketsTail@aol.com Subject: Re: grammy nominations of interest In a message dated 1/4/02 10:57:53 PM Central Standard Time, meth@smoe.org writes: > Best Female Rock Vocal Performance > > Tori Amos - Strange Little Girl > PJ Harvey - This Is Love > Lucinda Williams - Get Right With God > Melissa Etheridge - I Want To Be In Love > Stevie Nicks - Planets Of The Universe > This category usually tears me...I'll be happy with Tori (doubtful and probably least deserving this time but I love her anyway haha), PJ, or Stevie...Stevie was shunned more than I expected her to be for "Trouble in Shangri-la" this year in the GRAMMYS after all the "Album of the Year" talk...oh well, since when has the GRAMMYS treated legends correctly. -eric ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Jan 2002 21:24:31 -0800 From: "Angel's Shadow" Subject: Re: anticipated 2002 albums I'm waiting for Balligomingo's Beneath the Surface , Tapping the Vein's The Damage and hoping for something from My Brilliant Beast in the next few years....
