I will give you my best which are released in 2001: *** 1 *** Ketil Bjxrnstad Feat. Anneli Drecker & Bendik Hofseth on 'GRACE' This is a live recording with lyrics based on the poetry of John Donne. I had never heard lovesongs before which are so realistic painted than these. 'GRACE' contains also some beautiful soundscapes. The music is a mixure of acoustic instruments / electronic. The CD has a high recording quality level (hard to believe it's live) and is very dynamic. Resemblance: I think if you like 'Velvet Belly' and 'Daniel Lanois' you'll certainly not hate this. *** 2 *** Tactile Gemma on 'TACTILE GEMMA' Electronic music with some nice surrealistic lyrics, two heavenly voices (sisters Edvardsen) and heavy programming and treatments (Rune Sxrgerd). If you like Happy Rhodes and Bel Canto you would definitely like this. Anyway, it's possible that you have to listen to it more than once to enjoy the CD completely (an indication for good music?) That's it. Not many, but very good stuff (seems to be a Nordic offensive hehehe). To all the members of the collectiv heart: *** Best wishes, peace 2U& yours in coming 2002 *** Inigo ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2001 12:57:43 +0100 (CET) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: Re: Best recordings 2001 (?)/ Best wishes 2002 > That's it. Susi Varming Katthult The Camp and then Ephemera got a new album out and together with the Stina Nordenstam that I haven't bought yet. I'll get back to the list later on when it is more complete :) - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2001 14:38:49 -0800 (PST) From: Ellen Rawson Subject: More Than This I might mention that Lucy Kaplansky currently is doing an intriguing cover of "More Than This." I've tried solid state MP3 players (too little memory), minidiscs (nice and small, but also somewhat limited in capacity), and CD-MP3 players (the cat's pajamas!) I just got a portable MP3 player that holds 10 *gigabytes* of songs: D-Link's Roq-it. Not bad in the price department -- $215. I've loaded about 1,700 songs on it so far, and I have to say that this is one sweet digital player. The Roq-it's major downside is that it uses a USB connection, which makes uploading files very, very s l o w. It took over 2 1/2 hours to get 6 gigs onto the unit. But in the plus department, transferring songs is just a matter of drag and drop; no special software is required. Once you have the bulk of your music on board the Roq-it, uploading additional files doesn't take that long. Navigating through your music is as easy --or as hard-- as you might expect with a device that can hold up to 2,500 songs. (That's a lot of non-stop music.) Songs are arranged alphabetically, and folders are arranged alphabetically, too. You can tell the Roq-it to play your entire collection randomly, or to play random songs from within a folder, if you like. Whenever you add new songs, the Roq-it creates a new index. Indexing the songs can take several minutes, but once this is done, you can move from song to song quickly. The display is ample. While this isn't the smallest portable device around, it travels comfortably in a backpack, briefcase, or its own case. It Roq-it is about the size of a portable CD player, only rectangular. Battery life is 8 hours with a rechargeable lithium battery. Other features include a line-out so you can connect the Roq-it to your home audio system or use it in your car, an IR remote (which is a bit anemic), and a fairly wide range of equalizer settings. If 10 gigabytes isn't enough, you can replace the internal hard drive with nearly any 2 1/2" laptop drive (though that voids the warranty.) All in all the Roq-it is a nice way to take your tunes with you. There's more at www.dlink.com. - --Bill n.p. Kate Bush has announced that she would be returning to public life soon with a new album. The singer revealed her plans at the Q Awards yesterday (29 October) where she was presented with the Classic Songwriter award. "This is just great, I am making an album but it is just taking a little longer than I thought and I have been having a great time with my son," she said. She also thanked Dave Gilmour and Elton John for their help and guidance through her career, adding a special thanks to her father for "putting up with me banging on all those years ago". ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #358 **************************
