I had been meaning to pipe up about _Alias_ as well, at least to note the use of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" in an episode as well as all the other ectophilic music (although all the stuff that's not ectophilic seem to be all techo, oh well). And it is a pretty interesting TV show. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Dec 2001 13:29:43 EST From: Dracovixen@aol.com Subject: Curve _Gift_ I picked up Curve's latest album just last week, and I have to say I like it much better than their previous ones. It's cleaner, and they don't distort Toni Halliday's voice as much as they did. She has a lovely, sexy voice, and I'm glad they let it show through. I also liked the programming and the arrangements on the songs better. Anyone else have any thoughts on it? I continue to be baffled and a little angry that Garbage has made a successful career out of, to my ears, stealing Curve's style and watering it down. My review of this record (seeing as it's been a little while since I plugged my site...) is at http://www.furia.com/twas/twas0349.html#entry5. glenn ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 13:15:45 -0800 (PST) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Is there a brain in there...? I have to agree: I never been able to make myself buy one of her CDs. Her voice just never sounded "right" to me. She artificially "darkened" her voice so that she would sound more "mature". I had read in other places that her voice would suffer later on from this technique. >(snip) >Vickie wrote: > > > > Nice voice, but dim as a doorknob! > > > > http://www.smh.com.au/breaking/2001/11/30/FFXZ27YJMUC.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Dec 2001 00:24:48 -0500 From: meredith Subject: voices on the verge on npr Hi, Yesterday morning, I was pleasantly awakened to a long piece on Voices On The Verge (Erin McKeown, Jess Klein, Rose Polenzani, and Beth Amsel) on NPR's Morning Edition. C'mon, there's a huge difference between taking a dig at the victims of a mass murder (victims include rescue workers, workers still toiling at Ground Zero and Fresh Kills and the residents of a traumatized city) and daring to speak out against the war or the rapid loss of civil liberties or any other political backwash. Tom Tomorrow, she ain't. She's just an ill-mannered, ill-bred little airhead. > i give her points for at least daring to disagree, What and who is she disagreeing with? Something about firefighters appearing on television, but I don't know the context. I'm hardly a flag-waving, jingoistic conformist, but really, anyone who's willing to take on the horrible job of sorting through debris to pick up stinking, rotting, probably unrecognizable body parts, *is* a hero and deserves all the recognition they can get. > and an extra bonus for the poke at W. Ok, that was funny. But I can't help but hope that Bush skips her concert. Vickie ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #347 **************************
