This is the benefit Susan McKeown was putting together with Mila Drumke, Sloan Wainwright, Dorothy Scott, and someone else I'm forgetting. I'm not surprised to see this announcement, as no one at Fez had any clue what people were talking about when they called asking for information on it. I'm wondering if in all the whirlwind of getting a benefit together, people forgot to get in touch with the venue. :} Weirder things have happened! ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2001 04:43:03 From: "Lyle Howard" Subject: Brave Combo on the Square Greetings, I just got back from the annual Christmas tree lighting on the square. Only, it wasn't on the square and I didn't see the Christmas tree, unless it was that dinky artificial tree in the corner of the (round) Civic Center. Anyway, we had thirty degree weather for two days in a row and the city got scared and moved the music into the Civic Center. It made a fine dance hall. The Brave Combo arrived to put on their annual Christmas show. It is so kind of the city to pay for my Brave Combo jones. Usually we stand around the courthouse in forty degree weather and dance polkas. It was nice to have an actual dance floor. I don't know how to dance, so this band is phenomenal in its ability to move even the unfunkiest of non-dancing Baptists. If you would like to recreate the fun 90 minutes I just went through, go to Amazon, punch in Brave Combo, pick _It's Christmas, Man_, listen to the samples, and order the CD. When the CD gets to your house, call over three hundred friends and do the hokey pokey and the chicken dance in your front yard. And some cumbias, polkas, waltzes, and sambas. Mix with your neighbors and in 90 minutes you will be tossing your parka into a snow bank and you will be well done. Oh, yes. Brave Combo is playing a wedding in Boston (this weekend?) and invited us to crash the party. You Bostonites might want to find that wedding. And while you are at Amazon, download Brave Combo's version of "Double Vision." I just ordered Laurel McDonald's back catalog after listening to _Chroma_ three or four times. I am getting her Christmas CD. Will report back. Bye, Lyle n.r. Alan Mendlessohn, Boy from Mars.
