I've been off line for some time and wanted to say that it's good to be getting the ECTO list again. (also, hello to Elina, Kevin, Sharon and "Lolita") Question....there is a VW commercial that has a guy rushing to get to a wedding you think is his, but he's actually trying to stop.....there is a BEAUTIFUL song playing in the background with a dreamy techno/operatic vibe. Anyone know who that is? The name of the song? What CD? Thanks! How about Spartanburg or Greenville SC? Looking for something to do after a long day of Christmas shopping? Tired of cooking for a while? I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be playing at Jae, the new organic, vegan restaurant in Asheville this Friday, the 23rd from 6:00 - 9:00pm. Sorry for the short notice. The music I will be playing that evening could best be described as atmospheric piano with maybe some shakuhachi or other flutes thrown in. A very relaxing way to unwind I'm having a hard time coming up with a good description for my style. Come on out and give me a suggestion. What I'm aiming at is kind of like Koln Concert era Keith Jarret produced by Brian Eno. I just don't know what to call it. The food is really good. Top-quality vegetarian dishes from around the world. Don't miss the vegetarian sushi bar! If you're not hungry, there's a liquid bar too. Jae is located in the Westgate shopping center in Asheville, NC, next to Earthfare. (This was in response to a post in gaffa, but I didn't want to cross-post) What a wonderful time it is for movie fans! I love that I'm in a time (and place, Chicago) that allows me to see a David Lynch film (Mulholland Drive), a Coen Brothers film (The Man Who Wasn't There), a Pixar film (Monsters, Inc.), a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film (Amelie), a David Mamet film (Heist), a Terry Zwigoff film (Ghost World is still in theaters here), a Baz Luhrmann film (so is Moulin Rouge) and not one, but *two* Richard Linklater films (Waking Life and Tape)! I've seen all except for the Mamet and Linklater films (this weekend, for sure). And those are movies playing in the regular theaters, not including the art house/limited run theaters! I found a nice article at Salon about Mulholland Drive for those who might be interested: Everything (well...) You Wanted To Know About "Mulholland Drive" http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/10/23/mulholland_drive_analysis/index.html I love movies! Vickie (hey, I enjoyed Harry Potter quite a bit! That's more than just Chicago though. Albuquerque is most definitely not Chicago, but I can see virtually every one of those films now (and have seen almost all of them). Granted, Ghost World and Moulin Rouge are long departed, and Mulholland Drive closed last night. (Glad I saw it on Tuesday!). And Tape has yet to come. But it's nice to have so many good choices. > I found a nice article at Salon about Mulholland Drive > for those who might be interested: > > Everything (well...) Ever since Neile passed along the message about MMOH doing the soundtrack to "Apartment Hunting" (thanks Neile!) I've been keeping an eye on eBay and have her name on my Watch list. I've noticed a few Christmas EPs and a couple of "Count Your Blessings" up for bid. I expect to see more since Christmas is so close. I have both these things so others should try for them. They're both worth owning, needless to say. One EP auction ends in 23 hours and no one has bid on it yet. Someone should give it a good, loving home! I will, of course, fight to the death for an "Apartment Hunting" soundtrack/VHS/DVD though. Sorry! :-) Gosh, I never knew Mary Margaret was an *actress* too! I was shocked to find a few titles listed in an honest-to-god IMDB listing. I've already found and bought (but have not yet received) "The Hunter" with Steve McQueen, where MMOH is billed as "Child on Subway" and "Candy Mountain" (listed as "Darlene"). She appears with her sister Catherine in "The Shmenges, The Last Polka" which for some reason is going for some mighty big bucks on eBay. In the last couple of weeks I've seen the VHS sell for from $23.50 to $71.00! That had better be one damn good movie (though I used to *hate* The Shmenges on SCTV)! Unless she sings, I don't think I'd be willing to pay over $12-15 for one. I have yet to see a copy of "The Events Leading Up To My Death" where she plays "Rita" and is also credited on IMDB as being a composer. The IMDB soundtrack listing says her "Year In Song" is on the soundtrack, as well as something I haven't heard, a song called "Donkey See, Donkey Do." Wow! I guess I've really been out of the MMOH loop, but I aim to catch up. Vickie ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #336 **************************
