[NeverForever22@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2001 07:52:33 -0800 From: Phil Hudson Subject: LH Demos; Roll-call Hi Folks, sorry, I have been off the grid for a few days. Here's the latest on LHD. A total of 68 copies have been distributed so far. At last check the total requirement was approximately double that. Mike W has graciously offered to help, and is printing and assembling a another batch of 50, as my second printer recently gave up on life and started printing things with a decidedly greenish hue ( collector's items!). I have some more copies coming in from other printing sources, and I'm burning more CDs to cover the remainder of the list. Some of you should have already received your copies and have not: I noticed "where are they?" posts from Joseph Zitt and Kerry, both of whom were sent copies in the *very first* mailing, and I have received offline inquiries from others who should also have received their copies. I suggest an offline roll-call; can all of you who are expecting, or have received copies please offline me, if you've not done so already. This will give me an idea of how many units have gone astray, and we can send replacements. If you end up with two, perhaps you could forward on copy on to another recipient Many thanks to all of you for your patience: Fog's estimation is correct: producing and distributing 100+ of these suckers is easier said than done, and I thank Fog (and Heaven) for coming to the rescue. Thanks also to Vickie and Lyle, who sent contributions of money and supplies for the cause. Please email me offline and let me know if you've received your copy yet. Okay, so here's that date I promised: Epiphany Project will be performing Friday, November 16, at The Point in Bryn Mawr at 9 p.m. There's no opening act, and it's BYOB. Their shows are usually inexpensive, sometimes just a coupla bucks. For those of you who have never heard them, Epiphany Project is pianist John Hodian and vocalist/songwriter Bet Williams. Sometimes it's just the two of them; other times they're joined by percussion and strings. Hodian is an Emmy award-winning composer and is one of Manhattan's busiest composers of film scores. Williams is a folk favorite with a charismatic style and earthy, sometimes operatic, vocals. But when the two of them get together, their uncategorizable sound lies somewhere between avant-garde folk, world beat, and pop-art music. It's entrancing and otherworldly, poetic word play and contagious rhythms, evocative and compelling, highly charged and theatrical, spiritual and beautiful. In other words, it's Ecto music. I know what you guys like. And they be it. They'll make your hair stand on end. Please come out for a night you won't forget! They'll also be at The Larkin in Albany on November 4, ($4) and at The Colony Cafe in Woodstock on November 10 ($12). Or visit http://www.epiphanyrecords.com to hear some sounds. Bet Williams also performs solo and she's an absolute freakin' riot. Her charisma is astounding. Personally, I know both Bet Williams and Happy Rhodes, and ya know what? They're a lot a like as far as banter and goofiness. Here's some of Bet's upcoming shows: Levittown, PA (near Philly) This Friday !! Nov. 2 at 8:00pm Mom and Pops Coffee House 8525 New Falls Rd. (215) 547-1124 New York City Thursday, Nov. 8 at 9:00pm (one set) in New York City CBGB's (Downstairs Lounge) 313 Bowery St. (212) 677-0455 $7 ooh such a deal. Actually, some delay with mine is not too surprising, under the circumstances: after sending my address to the production squad, I moved from DC to NJ, which means that my disc is probably in the process of being sterilized at one end of the route or the other. - -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Jerusaklyn http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2001 20:52:11 +0100 (CET) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: Susi Varming Hi you all :) Another artist is flowing out of Norway - Susi Varming is hard to place really - I hear traces of Tori, Jewel, Milla, Susan Werner and in some twisted way Elysian Fields. Her album is mostly her and the guitar with some other instruments thrown in. Some of her songs are to be found at mp3.com. My favorite so far is her song Run. Another new norwegian artist to notice is Maria Solheim - she is a HUGE talent following in the wake of other artists from Tromsoe (Bel Canto, Lene Marlin, Kari Bremnes). Both are worth checking out ... - -- Yngve n.p.
