I've never been terribly intrigued by Emm's work (i do enjoy the albums i heard: Public, Science Fair and Dead R.) but this is a strong release. Reminiscent of early Tori Amos work of course but still quite personnal, even though they are covers. They work much better than the way Tori did hers on her new album. ______________________________________________________ E-mail gratuit - Multimania - http://www.multimania.fr ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 17:22:41 -0500 From: Jason Gordon Subject: Re: alyth mccormack I would second the recommendation (I was actually listening to this disc in the car on my way home from work today after getting in the mail the other day without seeing meth's post) It's quite lovely :) - I especially like Mo Thruaigh which at 1:20 is one of those perfect songs to squish on the end of a mix tape or cd when there isnt much room left - -Jason off to order the new Merrick album *yum* n.p. the rest of alyth... - -----Original Message----- From: meredith To: ecto@smoe.org Date: Monday, October 29, 2001 10:58 PM Subject: alyth mccormack Hi, I heard a very interesting segment on NPR's "All Things Considered" this evening, an interview with the Scottish artist Alyth McCormack, who has a new album called _An Iomall_ ("The Edge"). She's on Compass Records (the same label that Kate Rusby is on, among others), and the bits they played from the CD sounded fascinating. She's not doing anything that hasn't been done before -- traditional Gaelic music backed with various bits of electronica -- but there's something about it that really caught my ear. I'll be picking the disc up shortly. The segment can be heard at http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/atc/20011029.atc.18.ram, and her web site is http://alyth.com. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 20:17:33 -0800 From: "Michael P.
