MS is probably a monopoly in the desktop OS market; what they've been accused of is using their power in this market to unfairly price and influence purchasing (installation) decisions in other markets, such as the browser market. FYI, being a monopoly is not in itself a sign of evil. Natural monopolies - think electricity, gas, other industries with high infrastructure costs - are beneficial to society. They standardize platforms and enable consumer prices to be lower (imagine multiple electricity companies, all with high fixed costs and each unable to capture economies of scale) Could the OS market be a natural monopoly too, where the benefit is that we have a system where all desktop computers use the same platform? I'm not a fan of Microsoft either, and am all in favor of 'voting with your pocketbook'. But there are some benefits, too :-) ==> Valerie (no, I don't work for Microsoft...I just spent yesterday studying the anti-trust case!) --- Russ Van Rooy wrote: > If Microsoft is a monopoly - and many say that it is > - why then do you have > a choice to not use MS software, in this case > Outlook Express ? I can freely pick my electricity producer among multiple competing companies, and in other EU countries a similar scheme is being applied to gas companies. > Could the > OS market be a natural monopoly too, where the benefit > is that we have a system where all desktop computers > use the same platform? We are ready to ship out. Today Jane begins her travels across the continent bringing her musings to cities everywhere. Traveling with her is the SHEEBA Shop On Wheels. This means that at the concert venues you will be able to purchase much SHEEBA merchandise including our great new "City" products such as the hats, tour book, poster, shirts, and of course the CD. Many of your favorite past recordings, books, posters, videos, and toys will also be available Below is a complete list of the most up to date tour information - or you can check out our Tour page on the web that has links to many of the venue's websites as well. If you'd like to help spread the word, there is a downloadable poster on our "News" page that you can print out and hang in cafes, library's, music stores, book stores, and laundromats. We also need help on the road at certain venues with volunteers to assist in setting up, taking down, and running the SHEEBA Shop On Wheels. Please note that with the high volume of e-mail we are receiving - we will only write back if we need you, but we do appreciate all offers. We have had a fantastic response to the release of City and all the great merchandising supporting it. Orders keep pouring in around the clock and the SHEEBA elves are doing their best to give you the fastest and finest customer service possible - but with the volume of orders to fill as well as slow downs at customs we are experiencing some hold ups. Please be patient if your order does not arrive right away - it will be to you shortly! Up and coming - the the long awaited issuing of "Calling All Angels" in sheet music form with a beautiful full color cover that is as beautiful to look at as it is to sing will be ready for shipping within the next week. You can find sheet music under Books and Videos in the SHEEBA Store. In November, look for our page of seasonal gift ideas including some fantastic gift sets and a gorgeous new calendar featuring images from 12 of Jane's original album covers.
