Hello Folks, First of all, many apologies for the delay in the CDs. My own natural ineptitude combined with a dazzling variety of extremely unusual circumstances to delay the project beyond all normal schedules. Jeff Wasilko and Vickie Mapes have both been of enormous help, at least 100 recipients can thank Jeff for burning their discs for them. Ditto with the jewel cases; Vickie provided them, in addition to providing funds for supplies, so those bux would not come out of Happy's medical fund. My grateful thanks go out to both of these good people for all their help. Now the good news: I'm happy to announce that about all of the production problems have been overcome, the mice who gnawed through the printer cables have been caught and punished, the color cartridges no longer color everthing within a 3 foot radius when no-one is looking, and a batch of 50 CDs is complete and will be shipped out tomorrow (Sat) I will be working on a second batch over the weekend; Jeff has just sent me another 50 units, and I have two printing systems running out labels and covers. Now that I've finally gotten the bugs and rats out of the cover art software, so that everything lines up OK, I will be sending Vickie artwork files today, as she has volunteered to print some covers. (Anyone else out there who wishes to help print, assemble, or mail stuff out will be most welcome). So I hope to get a second batch of 50 by the end of next week; that should cover most of you! If anyone wants to get their CD and print their own cover, thereby saving us more time and $$ I could ship out a nude one, and include the artwork for you. Similarly, if anyone has any spare labels, or cd mailers, bubble packs, etc., anything we can scrounge for free will help the bottom line. Please contact me if you have anything to share. Anyone who wants to know when I ship to them, please email me and I will let you know. Once again, everyone, thanks to all of you for your patience; this was a new and interesting learning experience for me, and has given me a huge list of things NOT to do. I should have checked in with those of you who actually have experience with this stuff! Anyway, the CD is great, and, this being a Happy Rhodes cd it is , of course, well worth waiting for; the cover finally looks good and has a bunch of info and a foreword by HR inside, along with a picture of Happy performing at EctoWest in June. A small number of you will get 'collector item' covers; for example the one where the green ink ran out on the printer, creating an interesting infrared-type artwork rather similar to Zappa's Hot Rats album. These are one-of-a-kinds and should be cherished as heirlooms and passed down through future generations until the handle falls off. The basic cover is greenish, with a picture of some finger ferns on the front. ( actually some shots taken down by the creek across the street) Again, much thanks to those who have helped with this project, and to all of you who contributed to Happy's cause. Your reward is in the mail, (or will be shortly), and heaven. Please notify any donors you may know who are not on this list. Please, _please_ don't apologize for the delay (oh, no, it's too late!!, well, anyway). The whole idea of the CD is a wonderful, Happy bonus that will enrich our lives whenever it actually arrives. The only reason for my query about status was just to make sure I hadn't inadvertently gotten overlooked for some bizarre reason / alignment of the planets / etc. We all appreciate how much you, and Jeff, and Vickie, have worked on this, and I know I'm really looking forward to it, whenever it arrives. (I'm going to bed soon. :) The shows ranged from merely wonderful to transcendent. The first night was relatively lackluster, partly because we were quite far up in the upper balcony and the sound was actually rather faint; the second night was one "wow!" after another as the set went on; and last night we had our best seats (10th row orchestra), it was another "wow" setlist, and she played "Honey" and "Flying Dutchman", which made the whole thing even more worthwhile than it already was. Here are the set lists: Night 1 (Tuesday, 10/9): '97 Bonnie & Clyde Icicle Enjoy The Silence Rattlesnakes Cooling Pandora's Aquarium Beauty Queen Horses Spring Haze Cool On Your Island Doughnut Song Sweet Dreams Crucify Me and a Gun Baker Baker 1st Encore: China Thank Heaven For Little Boys/Over The Rainbow 2nd Encore: Purple People Hey Jupiter Night 2 (Wednesday, 10/10 - Tori's parents were in the audience, so she did a special show) '97 Bonnie & Clyde Past The Mission Leather Here. In My Head Take To The Sky I Don't Like Mondays Little Earthquakes Etienne Mr. Zebra Josephine Concertina Talula Me and a Gun Daniel 1st Encore: Merman Silent All These Years 2nd Encore: Enjoy The Silence Sister Janet 1000 Oceans Night 3 (Thursday, 10/11) '97 Bonnie & Clyde Icicle Little Amsterdam Leather Upside Down Rattlesnakes Winter Beauty Queen Horses Flying Dutchman This Old Man Not The Red Baron Crucify Yes, Anastasia Me and a Gun Landslide 1st Encore: Honey Hey Jupiter 2nd Encore: Playboy Mommy Time If you're planning to see a show on this tour, stop reading now -- you really don't want anything spoiled!! (woj and I have one show left, Sunday night at the Oakdale in Wallingford, CT. Stop by and say hi -- we'll be manning the RAINN table in the lobby until just before the end of intermission.) "'97 Bonnie And Clyde" starts off every show, with a very cool light show while Tori performs the song from backstage. It's very intense, and at the song's last note the backdrop through which the lights shine falls to reveal the stage setup. I think it'd be even more effective if Tori were sitting at the piano at the time, but then she wouldn't get to make a grand entrance. She has the Boesendorfer, an electric keyboard and a new toy, a Wurlitzer which once belonged to Country Joe And The Fish. She played "Crucify", "Talula" and "Playboy Mommy" on it, and all three were very, very cool, almost unrecognizable versions. The Y Kant Tori Read songs were a complete shock both times. She played both on the electric keyboard, and they were both gorgeous. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the good behavior of the audience all three nights. I don't know if recent events have tempered New Yorkers or what, but I didn't want to behead anyone sitting around me any night. You could hear a pin drop during "Me And A Gun" every time, too. If this is indicative of audiences elsewhere, I'd advise those who have stayed away for the past few tours to consider coming back into the fold. Every night it was like 1994 again, and that was a very good thing. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 18:29:32 -0700 From: uberdamon Subject: Re: rasputina: the lost & found?
