I ask because, over the weekend, I had a chance to pick it up for cheap, but the first never really did much for me. Just wondering if it was worth getting if the opportunity arose again. adam k. It's different in that it's something of a concept album, with a beginning and an end, and links between songs. Me, I liked Poe's first, but I absolutely LOVE Haunted. It's one of my all time faves at this point, and returns to the CD player prolly more often than any other. There is at least one song which I would've cut completely ("Not a virgin anymore;" embarrassing) and a few that I would've edited, but on the whole it's a pretty solid listen -- I'd rate it more consistent than, say, Dido's _No Angel_ disc, and I think the peaks are comparably high. I didn't pay retail for it, but I don't think I'd've felt ripped-off if I had. - -- d. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2001 09:26:08 -0700 From: "Bill" Subject: Re: Dido (Was: Poe cd's) On Thu, 11 Oct 2001 11:40:18 -0400 (EDT), dmw wrote: >[...] I'd rate it more consistent than, say, Dido's _No Angel_ disc [...] What is so inconsistent about Dido's album? A couple of questions: Adam K, John Higdon and dmw, can I use your recent comments? Who gave this unattributed quote (forwarded from Neile): "Poe puts out an adventurous, complex, rocking concept album. A great ambitious leap forward. Strong vocals, and some really catchy material. The interspersed recordings of her father's voice do get a bit tiresome after repeated listenings, but the great songs make up for it. Here Poe shows she can be as rocking as Liz Phair (I'm Not a Virgin Anymore) or Garbage (Wild), as well as writing some pretty complex, but still accessible and catchy pop material. While not the strongest voice singing today, there's something about her voice that I just love." I've been meaning to post about this disc. Mine just came a few weeks ago. Fun!! My favourite track is Melora's wicked little arrangement of 'This Little Piggy'. Just see if you don't get up and do the Charleston. The only problem I have is how long it took them to actually mail the CD. Appearently they make them on an order by order basis; so you have to wait for the manufacturer to send it to the distributer, and the distributer to send it to you. I ordered one at the end of August and it didn't arrive until the beginning of October. Still, if you love Rasputina it's definately not to be missed. The tracks were recorded in '99. The only musician credited is Melora. Supposedly this EP was released in anticipation of a new full length album with all new Rasputina line-up. (It seems the other girls wandered off and never came back.) - -Megan >From: uberdamon >To: ecto >Subject: rasputina: the lost & found? >Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2001 14:55:55 -0700 > >hi all! > >has anyone ordered rasputina's new ep, `the lost & found', yet? i noticed >it a while ago, and i assume it's probably worth it (i salivate imagining >them covering stuff like this), but still it'll end up being around CDN$20 >for 5 songs, so comments from anyone who has it would certainly be >appreciated. neile? > >their sadly flash-y site has very little info, though as usual the cover art >is fascinating: http://www.rasputina.com/lostandfound2.html > >thanks > >-damon > >Damon Harper _/\_ "Linux -- because you have >damon@usrbin.ca __\ /__ better things to do than > \ / reboot." >http://www.usrbin.ca/damon/ |/||\| - anonymous - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2001 20:25:21 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Re: Update on Left Hand Demos?
