It's been a while since the release of her first record and the huge success of her single "Ripped off"... errr, I meant to say, "Thorn" :) It's been 3 years in fact, the time she seemed to spend largely as a sleeve decoration for various celebrities more famous than herself, so it would be easy to dismiss her as a one-hit wonder. I know I did. But I just might have to take that back, because after hearing the first track off the new album, "That Day" I'm hugely impressed - sure, it's a pop song, but as far as pop goes, it is really, really good! In fact, it just might be too good for commercial success. Naturally I can't judge from just one song what the rest of the album will be like, but at this point I'm quite curious. It occurs to me many Ectophiles might not be familiar with Natalie Imbruglia at all. She was huge in her native Australia, and in England - her current base, and perhaps the rest of Europe, but I don't know how much success she had on the American market. To give you some idea, I think it would be fair to think of her as an Australian/English version of Leona Naess, both in terms of actual music and her marketing. And I know Leona has a few fans around here... She has a very pretty site, where you can hear the entire version of "That Day" and enjoy some gorgeous pictures of Natalie (who for my money is one of the most photogenic people in music business) - as long as your system supports Flash and Windows Media Player, that is. - ---------------------------------------------------- "People who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable." - ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2001 21:27:23 -0700 From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Lynn Miles Hey folks, Just a quick note about Lynn Miles, who played last night in Seattle. It was a great show. It's nice to know that her voice is absolutely as clear and beautiful live as recorded - when she hit those high notes it was absolutely sublime. Her guitar playing also surprised me - I wasn't expecting her to be quite that good. She also seems like a pretty funny person. All in all, a great night. Even my mother liked it! I spoke to Lynn briefly afterwards and she said that the Canadian release date for her new album is "Unravel" is October 16th. Don't know about international releases... - -sherlyn - -- Sherlyn Koo - sherlyn@fl.net.au "So I promise to grab my soul And leave my ego at the door, I'm gonna open up my eyes..." - Melissa Ferrick ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 01:24:43 EDT From: RocketsTail@aol.com Subject: Re: Natalie Imbruglia news Yes I hate the song "Torn" BUT I actually really really liked her cd a lot when it came out and thought she deserved to be more than a One-hit wonder. I'm glad to hear she has a new cd coming out, I'll definatly be getting it! ~eric MP3.COM- The Bubblegum Complex "The music with that fresh squeezed lemon taste" Support Indie Rock!!!!!! ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #279 **************************
