Ecto moments, even on the other side of the world: Sitting in a cafe in Malanda, a small town in the Tablelands, and having breakfast when Cousteau's "The Last Good Day of the Year" starts playing; Heading into Townsville, and Toni Childs comes on the radio; discovering a brilliant radio station called Coast FM, billing itself as "the adult alternative", a sort of easylistening-with-cred station that played such wonderful things as Toni Childs (again!), Capercillae (spelling?)and a track from Sarah Lee's solo album, that made me determined to track it down and make it mine. It was one of those great radio stations that made me want to hang on and hear what they were going to play next. It's a fantastic concept, and they carried it off with intelligence and a lovely eclectic style. Back and broke, facing a series of concerts that I can't afford: Aimee Mann, Kathryn Williams (with Matthew Jay in support!), Oh Susannah and an acoustic, small-scale gig by Dar Williams. The latter I tried to see, but it was sold out (seems it's more of a corporate do, with very limited seating for the public). Oh well. I've got my b-day coming up, and have presented a list to my loved ones consisting entirely of cd's, which has been greeted by cries of "Music AGAIN??!! Don't you want ANYTHING else?". And the answer is no. If any of you haven't been to that page, yet, the URL is: http://www.artist-shop.com/auntiesocial/lefthand.htm I should mention that although this page is within The Artist Shop, there are, in fact, no links to this page from anywhere in The Artist Shop or even from outside The Artist Shop. Happy is making the Left Hand Demos CD available to Ectophiles and only to Ectophiles. So the Ecto mailing list is the only place this URL has been seen. One other thing I should mention, a correction basically to what's on that page. On that page I mention that 3% of the donation amount is deducted to cover what the credit card companies charge me to do the processing. But I was able to figure a method of payment to Happy so that, in fact, there is no deduction at all! So for all of you who made a donation last week, I can tell you that Happy actually got 100% of your donation, not the 97% I originally stated. And the same goes for any future donations. Hm, I had not known about that one. Looks like its populated by folks who find ecto too voluminous. I would say that Happy should be informed. It was her decision to offer LHD to ecto listers, should be her call to expand that or not. On the other hand (npi), yahoo lists wrong century as having a total of 29 members (although one can lurk yahoo clubs without joining). A small but enthusiastic group - I'd urge her to include them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 06:18:21 +1000 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: RE: Left Hand Demo/Donations Hey folks, > > there is a yahoo club (http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/wrongcentury) which is > > a haven for some dedicated happyfans. perhaps they should be informed? > > Hm, I had not known about that one. I had actually forgotton about Wrong Century, but I thought that it might be nice to let fans (not on Ecto)in a few other groups know about this. Groups such as gaffa/Love-Hounds, the Tori group(s), perhaps a few others. I wrote to Happy and asked her and she said it was fine, but that I should contact Phil since he's the one burning copies. He's given his blessing too. So here's my idea. First, except for Wrong Century, who can/should be told asap, there's no real hurry on the other groups. Ectophiles come first, and Phil has his hands full with that. The other groups can wait a week or two. It might be wise to post a preliminary announcement before giving the actual details on how to get a LHD. That could give us an idea on how many responses to expect. I know that Phil has had offers of help, which is great, but some might feel that going outside the Ecto/Happy groups is something that they didn't bargain for, and I understand that. I can burn CDs at our house too (as well as color copy), and can handle those going outside Ecto. Unless, and this is very unlikely, there's an absolutely overwhelming response. Then I might have to scream for help. I think that any kind of announcement to non- Ecto/Happy-specific areas should ask for a minimum donation. As Phil said, some people just like the lure of free stuff and we don't want people rushing to join Ecto *just* so they can get a free CD then unsubscribe. I want to be very specific about what this CD is, so no one feels "ripped off" that it's not a prooooofessional CD. It's strictly For Fans Only (not that I don't expect the CD to be wonderful, but some people are sooo picky), while at the same time making clear why it's important (getting something special in return for a donation that will help a struggling musician) which could get donations from people who aren't really interested in the CD itself, but just want to help out. It could get Happy some new fans and some much-needed donations. Maybe not, but you never know. Any other ideas about this? V Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Your local tv listings may have gotten things screwed up this time (as tvguide.com did) and listed the whole block as whatever show is on before it in the 10:00 slot. Adult Swim is on Sundays from 10:30pm - 1:00am eastern, with the last hour being two eps of the anime Cowboy Bebop. I think Birdman is on at 11:00, after Brak. They rerun the whole block on Thursdays in the same time slot. Check cartoonnetwork.com for details. Personally, I watched the very beginning of Harvey Birdman the first week of Adult Swim, wasn't impressed, and so fast forwarded my tape to Space Ghost. I see from the schedule on cartoonnetwork.com that last night they apparently had some show called Aqua Teen in that spot, but I haven't actually watched my tape past the two eps of Brak yet.... Oh, but it's hilarious, especially if you find the TV Funhouse cartoons on Saturday Night Live funny. Apparently an upcoming episode has Harvey Birdman defending Shaggy and Scooby Doo after they get busted for possession. >I see from the >schedule on cartoonnetwork.com that last night they >apparently had some show called Aqua Teen in that spot, >but I haven't actually watched my tape past the two eps >of Brak yet.... Aqua Teen Hunger Force! A team of human-sized fast-food products that fight crime!! I only managed to catch a minute or two last night and it looked deeply weird. TiVo got very confused about the whole listing thing and so I had to kill it and wait for Thursday's rerun, which TiVo actually appears to understand is a three-hour block of programming.
